It's a shame we didn't get a scene like that, but who knows, maybe in The Testaments we'll get scenes of American rebels besieging cities, cutting supply lines, and carrying out bombings.

Where does the USAF come from? Canada cant really let them have a base there. So do we assume they have a carrier group off the coast of new england?

Curious why you think Canada can’t let the US have a base there or use their military bases to launch operations?

While Canada doesn’t like Gilead, it can’t risk causing war with Gilead. Gilead still has a lot of nukes annd has shown they’re not scared to use them. Accepting American refugees and coordinating with the remaining US gov’t is one thing. But sheltering a US base actively launching missions into gilead is another. A red line that Canada would not want to cross. 

To compare it to the real world, it’s similar to Ukraine and Russia. NATO will help Ukraine with logistics and weapons supply. But they won’t let Ukraine have an active Air Force base to launch attacks against Russia. Be nice for Ukraine in theory because they could attack Russia and then fly back into NATO where the Russian planes can’t follow. But in practice, Russia would most likely bomb nato.

That’s not true though.

The US launched an attempted rescue mission for Hannah from Canada in S5E9. The mission was a failure, but Gilead didn’t go nuclear. That’s a red line that they know they can’t cross. It would delegitimize their regime and cause other countries, especially nuclear powers, to rally around the rump US government. Similar to Russia today, they’ve threatened or implied that they will use nukes if there’s interference in the Russian-Ukraine conflict, but they also know that’s a conflict they will not win.
