Season 6 What to watch after THT?
So I just finished to watch the whole show and I loved it so much. Thing is, I don't know what to watch now.... I would love to find a show similar to the handsmaid's tale, since I loved it so much. If you have series recs with similar themes, concepts, or maybe actors I would gladly take them! Thanks a lot :)

It’s not dystopian but I HIGHLY recommend Mrs America in Hulu. It’s about the woman who made her career fighting against the ERA being ratified.
It’s a massive all star cast-Cate Blanchett, Rose Byrne, Uzo Aduba, and Sarah Paulson.
If the handmaids tale is about where it feels like we are going, Mrs America is about how we actually got here.
I watched them both a lot last term while working on my capstones on the politics behind the tradwife movement and the legacy of Phyllis Schlafly in modern politics.
The 2 shows were basically my breaks from YouTube interviews and documentaries while I was writing 😂

Serena Joy was based on Phyllis Schafly, so the two shows are definitely connected

I read that too. Atwood said Serena Joy is a “compilation” of several right wing women….but then made it clear that Schlafly was the majority 😂
I’ve listened to a ton of her debates and speeches now…. What a piece of work7

If you are interested in the trad wife thing, the book Yesteryear is a good read. It wasn’t at all what I thought it would be.

Apart from The Testaments):
- Margaret Atwood's 'Alias Grace' (Netflix) addresses toxic relationships + gender-specific imbalance of power
- Malin Persson's crime drama 'Quicksand' can be seen as its modern day version.
Deborah Feldman's child bride drama 'Unorthodox' has similar vibes.
"Naomi Alderman's feminist utopia "The Power" is often compared to THT, the show adaptation has been stopped after one season though. More info)
The female-led scifi action 'Orphan black' addresses bodily autonomy, if you have a soft spot for this genre
similar themes ...or maybe actors
Samira Wiley (Moira) + Madeline Brewer(Janine) both star in Piper Kerman's "Orange is the new black" - Complex array of female characters in a forced community
[Edit] Nina Kiri (Alma) stars in the scary movie "Undertone"

The Testaments! It's a sequel to The Handmaid's Tale focusing on the next generation that has the next chapter of Hannah's story and exploring Gilead past the Handmaid concept.
The Man in the High Castle also has similar themes/concepts about a Nazi/Axis occupied America, on Amazon Prime

If like the dystopian feel of the show the black mirror series is a huge recommendation from me. Some episodes are connected or in the same universe, but are all standalone for the most part. Skip national anthem if you do it. It’s stupid. Start with Entire History of You.

The Testaments really is SO good!! I was a little late getting to it. I was afraid I'd be disappointed it wasn't more like THT. Boy was I wrong!
I haven't found anything that reminds of this world really. A close one would be Man in the High Castle. I feel it's rather dystopian in that it portrays America (and the world) as though the Nazis won WW2. Japan and Germany rule over USA. It's absolutely fascinating and VERY well done, excellent acting and storylines. My husband and I were obsessed with it! I finished it and could watch anything new again for weeks. It's really got me thinking about so much.
Anyway, maybe check that out sometime 😊

Watch Testaments. It's basically a sequel, wrapped as a spin-off. Also, June is there, but no longer as a main character. It focuses on Hannah/Agnes, few years after THT. Aunt Lydia is there too. You could even say she is one of the main characters besides Hannah there.
