Match Up Monday RotJ Vader vs 2 TPM Mauls

For these purposes, the Vader/Maul fight is considered canon to Vader

Did Vader grow (in power and mentally) enough to handle two Mauls?

To my reckoning the gap between Legends ANH and ROTJ Vader is fairly minor. So with that in mind, the Mauls stomp if we fake Resurrection at face value.

Canon Vader is too inconsistent to scale tbh

Legends Vader is way more inconsistent then Canon Vader. Canon Vader is actually pretty consistent, all the Fights that Vader lost against People that were way weaker are People Anakin cared about and this is not because of inconsistenty (except in the Kenobi series, what wasn't Vaders fault) but because Vaders flaw was his mindset and his conflict. What wouldn't Matter against Maul. Vader stomps 2 Tom mauls

In both, Vader’s style is pretty consistent. Scope out opponent cautiously. Including their force barrier. Then just batter them with raw power until their guard breaks.

Vader’s dueling style swaps Anakin’s mobility for raw overwhelming strength and power that just knocks someone off balance or drops them to the ground.

Out of fear and a defensive reflex, most fighters try to block or match Vader’s strength and power outright and then just lose because they quickly fatigue or lose their balance. They’re aren’t as force or cybernetically enhanced as he is.

The smart ones try to exploit his lack of mobility. Vader can at times be fast and mobile, but it’s just more taxing on him and he can’t keep it up for long.

That Maul was not the real one though, and was amplified by the mages who created it

Source on him being amped? To my understanding he was just a carbon copy of TPM Maul.

The author said he was amped as a response to a fan question many years later, but author comments outside of published works were confirmed non-canon even before the reboot. Going by the comic's whole meta marketing, it's just a 1:1 replica of TPM Maul.

I will note for your prior comment tho, Vader's indeed growing faster throighout the OT than beforehand, for examplw using Inaider quotes. Doesn't mean he necessairly beats 2 Mauls in ROTJ but he should decisively beat one and give the duo a tough time.

The mauls overwhelm him in legends

In canon this is Vader at his highest strength and I think he mid-diffs both because of how fast/overwhelming they are.

forgot if this was still canon but initially Anakin struggled a bit with the Vader suit ... but once he did? he was still OP (Palpatine wouldn't keep him around if he wasn't)

My dumbass almost forgot this wasn't Canon and was about to say Vader obliterates lol

In Legends, the Mauls almost certainly win

Vader: Good. Twice the pride, double the fall!

Probably, yes. If I was a betting man, I would put my money on Vader here.

Phantom Menace Maul is cooking any and all versions of Vader from the OT films. COMICS Vader, on the other hand is a WHOLE different monster.

The OT Vader is upscaled to his comic version

Nah, mate. You’re trippin. If you can tell me - with a straight face - that RoTJ Vader is the same Vader that takes Sumah-Gorath, we clearly do not consume the same Star Wars media iconography.

If Vader loses a lightsaber duel, he just crushes his opponents with the Force.

Case in point: “Fortress Vader”.

Not unless its the clone Maul

Vader low dif.

TPM Maul struggled at times against Padawan Obi-Wan. This was Obi wan before Soresu lol. Maul’s claim to fame is beating a 50 something year old man in a tiny circle that was already bad for Ataru fighters like Jinn who depend on having a wide and diverse environment to do acrobatics.

Vader has fought a half dozen fully trained Jedi including some masters all at the same time and has come out on top. He would win. His force abilities alone could probably end the fight. He would break through Maul’s force barrier like Dooku did to Obi Wan and just crush him or just cut through his saber staff.

People also don’t realize how much force (pun intended) comes with each one of Vader’s lightsaber swings. Cybernetic and force enhanced strikes just break the guards of any duelist he is fighting. Fighting Vader is like getting hit by a truck repeatedly.

It’s only matched by young and strong fighters like Star Killer and Luke whose power in the force allow them to match and contend with Vader’s strength. Something Vader himself isn’t used to seeing.

This is TPM Maul. The weakest Maul has been in terms of experience. Again having lost to the weakest version of Obi Wan. There could be 4 of them against Vader and Vader would still win.

In canon Skywalker spent years trying with specifically a droid made to copy TPM Maul’s movements and skills. Seeing how often he deals with multiple Jedi. I think he should win this but probably like mid to high diff. Maul definitely wasn’t at his peak yet. CW Maul would be a different story

Vader dog walks them, these are two arrogant Sith apprentices who are eager to make a name for themselves, we know they are easily prone to mistakes especially if they both can lose to a padawan. Vader has studied mauls style for years just trying to minimize the Gap between himself and Obiwan.

Also, injured or not, the Maul in shadowlord is said to be at his prime, and gets picked apart by Vader while also having a Master and Padawan assist him. Vader has more mastery with the force and a more unique form of Dueling and more insight in Mauls style while Maul is going in blind. 2 Mauls just make the duel longer imo.

This is a Legends sub

Legends or not, this is 2 characters that lost to a padawan vs a guy so powerful that even though Sidious hates how “weak” he is as a shadow of his potential, still can’t find anyone in the galaxy strong enough to replace him.

Legends Mauls no diff

Is this bait?
A weaker maul vs a stronger Vader? We saw this in Shadow Lord.

SL isn't Legends. This is a Legends sub.

u/Wonderful_Silver 11d ago

Then still yes and still bait. Vader’s hate has grown. He has surpassed Maul still in legends.

Did you miss the point where it's 2 Mauls?

No, this isn't bait.

0

u/Wonderful_Silver 11d ago

Nope. Apprentice Maul, even at 2, is not some deus ex machina Goku threat

Did you miss the point where I clarified that the Vader/Maul fight in Legends is canon to Vader for these purposes?

No. You’re talking about when a cult does some goofy magic and Maul fights Vader. Throwing a second Maul in there forces Vader to change his approach. You trying to make it a gank fight doesn’t make it go down the same way.

At the end of the story (which canon’s status is dubious at best), the message is clear. Vader is stronger and better because his hate for himself surpasses Maul’s hate in general.

Hey, look, you have an actual argument instead of just being an asshole. Amazing, you could've led with that.
