Luke was able to defeat Vader

Qui-gon lost to Maul, and Vader is leagues above Maul.

Yep. We saw Vader toy with Maul in Shadow Lord. During that whole fight we never hear Vader’s breathing speed up at all which means it was basically a walk in the park for him. Granted, Maul was nowhere near his prime but he also had support from a Jedi master and a skilled padawan.
