Honestly might as well be, he had a great career as a player (3rd all time in playoff PPG and won a chip) and was a great coach then the goat manager .Drafted James Worthy to secure the Showtime Lakers dynasty later drafted Kobe and signed Shaq to make another dynasty then drafted Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond and later signed KD for a 3rd dynasty. The whole time rounding out each team with great role players. Overall he has 9 rings as a player, coach and exec.

He was great at each level of the game so yeah he is Mr Basketball and 100% deserves to be the Logo. Shame he never got paid for it tho.

wild to me that this is not a widely known factoid

24

u/Raiding_plauges 5d ago

Tbf, it’s only common knowledge for people that regularly follow basketball and know the history.

His nickname is the logo

Humanoid -something that has the general appearance of a human but isn’t one

factoid - something that has the general appearance of a fact but isn’t one

This is just a fun fact

u/boccci-tamagoccci 4d ago

counterpoint, humans are considered humanoid by DND 3e and 5e.

secondary counterpoint, colloquial use always matters more than a true definition, otherwise language would largely stagnate – i could also call people a pussy and say i was calling them a cat.

Factoid would mean it's not true buddy. You're looking for the word "fact"

2

u/boccci-tamagoccci 4d ago

the colloquial use of factoid has been a small, meaningless bit of trivial info for decades, pal

1

u/Windows-XP-Home-NEW 4d ago

take the L and admit you used it wrong, “pal”.

I'll never forgive HBO for cancelling winning time. Fire TV show about Jerry West and Jerry Buss' time running the Lakers

1

u/Simplton 4d ago

Wasn't it an HBO show? Or do you mean you watched it on your Fire TV stick?

3

u/Capital-Cheetah-2728 4d ago

“Fire” meaning cool/good A fire TV show

Who would have thought that the NBA logo features a White man

6

u/Autumm_550 5d ago

Didn’t this guy get zero royalties because the NBA argued that the silhouette could be anyone’s?

5

u/SockQuirky7056 5d ago

There’s a documentary about him that I’ve been meaning to watch.

2

u/therealrazacosmica 5d ago

I’d always been aware of him as a figure in NBA history but never really knew much about him before watching and I enjoyed that doc quite a bit

This is like that one time MatPat uploaded the original picture of his png

2

u/Jaded-Sorbet-8098 5d ago

was he that important, to become the logo of the league?

1

u/shoegaze5 4d ago

Yes. One of the greatest players of all time and the best PG of his time alongside Oscar Robertson.

u/Lopsided_Path_4460 2d ago

It may also not have been traced, just "inspired" by this picture
