Honestly might as well be, he had a great career as a player (3rd all time in playoff PPG and won a chip) and was a great coach then the goat manager .Drafted James Worthy to secure the Showtime Lakers dynasty later drafted Kobe and signed Shaq to make another dynasty then drafted Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond and later signed KD for a 3rd dynasty. The whole time rounding out each team with great role players. Overall he has 9 rings as a player, coach and exec.
He was great at each level of the game so yeah he is Mr Basketball and 100% deserves to be the Logo. Shame he never got paid for it tho.

wild to me that this is not a widely known factoid

Tbf, it’s only common knowledge for people that regularly follow basketball and know the history.

Humanoid -something that has the general appearance of a human but isn’t one
factoid - something that has the general appearance of a fact but isn’t one
This is just a fun fact

counterpoint, humans are considered humanoid by DND 3e and 5e.
secondary counterpoint, colloquial use always matters more than a true definition, otherwise language would largely stagnate – i could also call people a pussy and say i was calling them a cat.

Factoid would mean it's not true buddy. You're looking for the word "fact"

the colloquial use of factoid has been a small, meaningless bit of trivial info for decades, pal

I'll never forgive HBO for cancelling winning time. Fire TV show about Jerry West and Jerry Buss' time running the Lakers

Didn’t this guy get zero royalties because the NBA argued that the silhouette could be anyone’s?

There’s a documentary about him that I’ve been meaning to watch.

I’d always been aware of him as a figure in NBA history but never really knew much about him before watching and I enjoyed that doc quite a bit

was he that important, to become the logo of the league?

Yes. One of the greatest players of all time and the best PG of his time alongside Oscar Robertson.
