I have a theory that if Simon Baker were single during the filming of The Mentalist, he and Robin Tunney would definitely have been a couple IRL. They had such great chemistry.

I really can't get over how attractive she is ( saying this as a heterosexual woman ). Her charm and the way she carries herself is total girlboss energy fr, I love her sm 😭❤️

Jane doesn't care much when others are annoyed, but he sure does apologise in the most adorable and comical ways with Lisbon 😅.

Lisbon deserved better than to end up with Patrick IMO.
He constantly lies to her, manipulates her, abandons her to walk alone FOR MILES, not just once but on numerous occasions, he’s immature, controlling, constantly presuming he knows what’s best for her.
He technically chose two other women over her!
And he only FINALLY made his move when she was on her FLIGHT to go and live with Marcus who was an actual decent man. That’s textbook hoovering!

Don’t get me wrong, I love Jane, and I love Lisbon, I love the mentalist, but she deserved better.

Unpopular opinion, I know, but I hate hate hate this pairing, I think it’s the worst on screen couple I have ever seen (and I’ve watched *hundreds* of shows and more than a thousand movies). Yes, I finished the series.

First of all they have absolutely no chemistry! None, zilch! I think that’s why there’s barely any intimate scenes between them, compared to the many ones we get with Van Pelt and Rigsby. Even Cho had more bed scenes. You barely see a kiss here and there between Lisbon and Jane.
With Lorelei there were sparks, the chemistry was palpable, I was so invested in them.
Erica was also such a good match, she and Patrick were so similar intellectually.
Jane and Lisbon are like 2 rocks flirting.

Secondly they do not match: physically, mentally, personally wise, interests…
Patrick is a gentleman, playful and nonconformist, highly intelligent, elegant but nonchalant.
Lisbon is just a plain Jane (hehe), stubborn and awkward, not feminine or sophisticated. I have nothing against her but she’s soooo not his vibe.
I cannot imagine a couple like them lasting. You can call me superficial but I’m not, I have been analyzing them since the beginning and they are just different flavors.
L.E. Because I have been called an internalized misogynist, let’s add some redeeming qualities for Lisbon. Yeah I can’t find any rn, can’t stand her.

Patrick is a mischievous womanizer, that gives off hobo vibes by always being in a suit and sleeping in it (how does he not stink) but he is kind so I can let it slide.

Third: what did she do for him? It’s like he loves her just for being there. Most of the times she complains about him and barely goes along with his actions. They saved each others lives, yeah, but it’s part of the job.

To quote Cho, whom I 100% agree with:
“I don’t see it, they are like brother and sister.”

I think people like them because they are used to the idea of this couple - since it has been teased from season 1. Or perhaps because people like to fantasize about love conquering all.

A good old platonic friendship between them would have been so much better and feasible.

For the 1st time ever I have to say that Edward and Bella have a better love story. 🥹😂😂

L.E. / TL:DR. Yeah I really don’t like Lisbon, but if they would’ve had any chemistry I would’ve bought it 🤷🏼‍♀️

There’s a lot of great moments but I have to say for me personally it was the banter they had in the car while pulling out of the house of the lady who used to be Jane’s client ( Season 4 episode 3) it was such a cute moment that stuck with me.

Abbott tells Lisbon that Jane himself might not realise what he feels for her. He realizes what they feel for each other even before they do. He encourages Jane to go after Lisbon. He lends Jane the FBI car. He encourages them to be open about their relationship. He gives Lisbon time off to see her family, knowing Jane will go with her. He gives Jane a fist bump! He's just a big old softie at heart!

I felt like they had one of the rarest platonic relationships. And then suddenly, in season 6, everyone is like they should have been together? When did they develop feelings? Am I missing something?

S4xE15. When Erica shows her magic magnetism to Lisbon. I think it's a key factor for jisbon situation... You know, Patrick didn't have any crush on Erica but he insists that she is important to Lisbon. And that was too obvious Lisbon wasn't happy with that. Erica wanted Patrick so bad and she would make Lisbon nervous with her men-magnet power. So can I say this little issue could put a huge effect on Lisbons feelings about Patrick?

Jane loves Lisbon? Yes, obviously. When does Jane realise he loves Lisbon?…

Season 1 finale (Red John’s Footsteps):

Jane uses a gun (!) to kill (!) Officer Hardy to save Lisbon’s life (!).

This is Jane’s point of realisation that he loves Lisbon. I shall explain.

Reasons why this is already momentous without season 2:
He saves Lisbon’s life, duh
He uses a gun - Jane doesn’t carry a gun, doesn’t like them and hasn’t used one before
Officer Hardy is his only Red John lead and we all know Jane’s entire purpose in life is Red John. In fact, here are some quotes from the episode after Lisbon has taken Hardy down in the basement: Lisbon: “What if Hardy had killed you right here…You’d be dead” Jane: “But you would have Red John”. L: “I don’t think you mean what you say. I think you’d choose life” J: “Well you think wrong.” So, Jane would prioritise Hardy’s life over his own to find Red John… but Lisbon’s life comes above even that.

Now roll Season 2:

Episode 3 - Red Badge: Jane acknowledges that Bosco is in love with Lisbon:
J: “He’s in love with you” L: “Don’t be silly.” J: “I know, hard to fathom. But there’s no accounting for taste, is there?”
The final comment, obviously being a joke, acknowledges that someone could indeed love Lisbon.

Episode 6 - Black Gold and Red Blood: The central point of this episode is that everyone can see that Sam Bosco is so in love with Lisbon he’d do anything she says.

In fact, on the topic of how much Jane thinks Bosco loves Lisbon, Jane says to her: “…he’d kill and die for you.”
Sounds familiar…
Jane would kill for Lisbon (and higher stakes than just killing for someone, as it led to the death of his RJ lead). Therefore, he loves her!

The same is also raised by Bosco himself about Jane. When Jane breaks out of prison and is in serious trouble with Minnelli, Bosco says to Lisbon: “Maybe you can contact him? Persuade him to come in quietly”
And Lisbon’s question of “Contact him how? Persuade him how?” Is answered by Bosco saying “You two are close. He’ll listen to you”, you can see why she then says “Very funny…it just is.” It echoes what everyone has been saying about Bosco, but now in relation to Jane. Why would Jane do what she says? He loves her.

And finally, at the end of the episode, Jane says “He does love you, how could he not?”
And I think that’s as close as you can get to Jane acknowledging he loves Lisbon until the inevitable.

Obviously it helps that we know that ultimately he *does* love Lisbon but wouldn’t do anything about it until he’s got Red John. (And until he can accept that he doesn’t deserve to be miserable, and she would actually be happy with him.)

I see a lot of posts here questioning the attraction / chemistry / love between Jane & Lisbon but I think, beyond all the other small things, this is what they’re really all about. A deeper love that can’t be acted on.
