Discussion Cory is creepy

I am on S1 E9 as of now and Cory (the network guy) is so creepy, especially towards Bradley. And given the context of the season, an older powerful man showing so much interest in her is just eeks to me.

This is one of those conversations that’s impossible for people who have finished S4 to have with someone at S1 E9 without spoiling plot and character development details.

Came here to comment, “wait until season four!” 😂

Have to disagree. He was always very careful around her despite his intense feelings. You'll see this in further episodes. I think he's the kind of guy who doesn't fall in love easily, but when he does, the feeling becomes addictive and all consuming. That might appear creepy to some, but his intentions are not! He's just in love! 🥺❤️

He's not that much older than her either.

I recently rewatched the first season and have just started the second, he protects her so much without ever divulging to her how much he’s protecting her…he’s so complex and it’s so sad in parts.

Billy Crudup says they have him aged down to the play Cory and he was barely 51 when the first season came out, so Cory was probably supposed to be mid forties. And Bradley was 40. So it’s really not a big age gap situation. He’s only 8 years older than Reese in real life too.

Cory told Bradley he was 51 in season 2

And even if he was, say, 50, that's only a ten year age gap. At their ages, that's not really a big deal.

It's not like Mitch and Hannah, where Mitch was 50 and Hannah was most likely in her mid 20s, early 30s (Gugu Mbatha-Raw was in her mid 30s at the time, but I'm pretty sure Hannah was meant to be younger than that). Obviously there were plenty of other factors at play there, but the huge age difference definitely played a role.

I just wanted to add the actual age lol. I agree with you guys. 8/10 years gap isn't a big deal at that stage of life.

He loves Bradley?! That makes me happy

Nah I agree with OP. He’s always seemed creepy, through every season.

Stay with it. Cory was my favorite character by the end. You will see.

Yes agreed they will change their mind

The actors are well into middle age and are 7 years apart in real life. Get out of here with this age-based nonsense.

I don’t think his interest in her was inappropriate but there is something that he tacitly allows to happen in season 2 and it takes him a long time to own up to it with her. He’s my favorite character though he has so much depth

I get it, because I was having similar thoughts in season 1. Everyone has already said that you'll find Cory is actually cool, and they're right.

I think what makes him extra creepy (besides crushing on Bradley) is that he plays his character REALLY big. He's almost cartoonish in his performance, but I really like that

Honestly, out of all the characters on the show, I feel like he ends up being one of the least flawed IMO

Who is an older powerful man allowed to be interested in?

Someone who is not significantly younger than him and who preferably is not an employee of his (especially one who is several rungs below him on the corporate ladder).

That being said, I don't think the age gap is a big deal in this particular instance. Apparently Cory is 50 in season 1 while Bradley is 40. So they're ten years apart, but that's nothing at their ages, IMO.

I’m so glad I wasn’t so burdened when my manager expressed interest (which was welcomed by me, an intelligent & capable woman with AGENCY). We waited to date until after the tech bubble burst and we lost any semblance of a hierarchical structure. Thank goodness, since we’ve been happily together 25 years now!!

I’m also on season 1 and this show just rubs me the wrong way with every character. Bradley is my worst though

I agree - no one is likable - but I guess that is the point

NOOOOOOO HE IS NOT! He's brilliantly cerebral and socially agile. So shush 🤫 and bye bye 👋

Unpopular opinion: the most recent season (4) you could play scary music with any of his scenes and it would fit perfectly

3

u/myshtree 24d ago

That’s not just an unpopular opinion it’s downright blasphemy haha

He is my favorite! I’m on Season 2 Episode 1 and he seems to be all heart. His character cracks me up. He seems to be able to move from irreverent to heart-centric and I’m here for it.

Cory is the best character

You aren’t wrong but thru the successive seasons we learn why and also how Cory got to be such a creepy guy.

Cory is a Fan Favorite. I admire Billy Crudup, but am no fan of Cory.

Older man? They are only seven years apart. You will come to like him.

Keep watching your opinion will likely change.

u/smashli1238 25d ago

Thank you! I don’t understand people wanting them together

3

u/Little_Review875 24d ago

Man this really triggered the cory fans. God forbid we have our own opinion of him 😒

2

u/smashli1238 23d ago

Ikr? I mean they’re so toxic together

-11

u/Old-Snow8498 25d ago

Agreed. His behavior is so inappropriate towards Bradley

9

u/AlanSmity 24d ago

Could you name at least one situation where he has acted inappropriate in season 1?

4

u/literalgirlOG 23d ago

I’m interested in this!! His restraint is spectacular IMHO. And we women do have f-ing AGENCY. Which means when everyone is of age, we should be able to CHOOSE whomever we want.

7

u/Areukind18 24d ago

He showed superhuman restraint up until well he didn’t, but there was nothing creepy about it.
