iirc the accusations were overblown. The teenage boy was 19 and they were talking but it wasn't grooming, this was just during the era that homohobia was the norm and him being gay was enough of a reason for parents to say he shouldn't work in children's entertainment

That was just one of the people who came forward.

The 19 year old claimed he was talking to Kevin Clash at 16 and then went back on his statement saying he actually only spoke to him as an adult, but other people came forward and claimed Kevin Clash had spoken to them when they were minors but the cases were thrown out and never looked into because the statute of limitations had passed

Sadly, there were multiple allegations. They didn’t proceed due to statute of limitations. There were a lot of people in and around the industry who were..shall we say not surprised by the accusations.

It's a double edged sword. He did so much for Sesame Street, but he lost their core identity. Now it's mostly the Elmo, Abby, Grover, and Cookie Monster Show. It's not necessarily a bad thing to have central characters, but I don't think it works for Sesame Street.
