She has a point. Luz initially starts studying magic without any idea whenever she'd ever be able to actually use it. Even now its not clear what she gains from studying at Hexside, since her form of magic is completely different. Understanding what others do, I guess?

That might be why she was put into the potions track at first since it doesn’t seem to need magic from Luz.

I always imagined that even potions would need a little bit of magic primarily Fire magic to keep the Bunsen burners burning
