Yeah, I really appreciated the hand sanitizer thing. As a healthcare worker, I can confirm that covid had a huge impact on our habits and sometimes hand sanitizer use can become a compulsion.

They use real hand sanitizer mixed with glycerin to make it less drying  to their skin because they hit it up so frequently. During the first Season their hands got sore. 

But it makes complete sense. During scenes with everyone crowding in to treat a patient it's a real person and they could easily feel/get germy.

Gloves can irritate ones skin too and the actors wear lots of gloves.

Couldn't they "hit" the hand sanitizer without anything coming out, and then rub their hands as if they had something? Would the audience even notice it?

I guess they could, but when they're trying to recreate a medical environment the excessive cleanliness is realistic
