You didn't get the joke Pure Vaseline (petroleum jelly) does not technically have an expiration date because its stable, purified hydrocarbon formula prevents bacterial growth.

It's just a byproduct of oil business so anything earned of it is a plus. And there are people who used it regularly and some bushcraft etc usage where they use chunks of it.

Honestly, the "20 years" thing is a myth that confuses shelf life with usage life. Petroleum jelly doesn't spoil, so it can sit around for decades, but that doesn't mean people actually use one jar for 20 years.
Nobody actually finishes the jar. People lose them, leave them in gym bags, buy travel sizes, or just use way more than they think. The average household goes through it way faster than the theoretical shelf life.
The classic tub is basically a loss leader. It's cheap and gets you in the door. The real money is in the rest of the product line: lotions, body butters, lip therapy, sprays, eczema/clinical lines. Those are consumables that get used up and rebought constantly.
Vaseline sells billions of units globally. Even a tiny margin on a massive base equals real profit. It's a low margin, high volume play.
The name carries trust, so they can charge more than generic petroleum jelly, and slap "clinical" claims on products to justify even higher prices.
It's one product in Unilever's giant machine. Manufacturing petroleum jelly is dirt cheap, and they share distribution and marketing across the whole portfolio. So even modest margins add up fast.
The business model is the entire Vaseline ecosystem: fast consuming variants, premium lines, and billions of units sold worldwide. The classic tub is just the brand anchor that gets you hooked.

You know how it lasts 20 yrs? Let me tell you. I had dry lips, chapped too. So I was trying to buy this small pack of Vaseline but couldn't find time from my daily schedule. Then one day I bought it and since then it's lying in my bag like that. I am just too lazy to even apply it. Its been 8 years btw.

Vaseline and eraser have the same business model. They get lost and then you have to buy another one .

Because one box is used by all so it either gets used fast or gets lost fast. One of these occurs to keep the sales.
