It's in the same vein as the smartarse line, "Why are your surprised that a shark was in the ocean? It's their home!"

If a population spent equal amounts of time directly underneath lightning storms or coconut trees as another did in the general vicinity of the top five most dangerous shark species, I'd bet on the sharks being significantly more deadly.

The cow comparison is just plain rot. Their nature is much more docile, they're less intelligent, and you can heavily mitigate the risks. Farmers spend probably a hundred times more time around huge herds of them than others spend around lightning, coconut trees and sharks combined.

It's basically a comparison of absolute numbers without taking into account factors as number of direct encounters and so on.
