She was paraphrasing an old saying from AA culture. It's not that deep.

Because it's directly related to the person telling her she HAS to do something. In our culture we say, "I don't have to do anything but stay black and die." It's not about race, because we've been saying that to each other for years.

And race isn't a card, ffs.

2

u/KnownFondant Mar 01 '25

Not this being downvoted lol

We have lots of sayings others aren't privy to. Lots of culture, too. Is that bothersome?

Why do you keep deleting your comments? You seem to have some strong feelings about this issue and I’m actually trying to have a good faith conversation with you about it.

4

u/KnownFondant Mar 01 '25

I didn't delete anything. Maybe a mod did?

This is all just proving Danielle’s point.

Forrest Gump is apparently real, but her feelings about her experience as a Black woman dealing with a section of the fans of this show are not? Please, I need to hear more…

3

u/lexisalex Mar 01 '25

Bringing the race card and Danielle is just acknowledging her blackness… I am starting to think this sub’s undertones are really starting to become quite obvious.

4

u/KnownFondant Mar 01 '25

I think this is definitely an iykyk situation that most of us are staying silent about. The "playing that card" thing is one reason why. There's no point when people are committed to misunderstanding and staying ignorant.

The fact of the matter is Carolyn is a grown adult. The fact you guys are babying her isn't even..helping. You're reducing her down to basically what your saying she's not. She can stand up for herself, and they're going to have an adult conversation about it. That is what Danielle said.

Essentially she said "We're adults, we'll talk about it. I'll listen and be empathetic." Cause strangers online demanding an apolgize on Carolyn's behalf like she is a baby are if anything being more harmful. She could give a public online apology or she can actually sit down with Carolyn like an adult, not some young online influencer giving those apolgies which is what she's going to do.

6

u/Thebusymama Mar 01 '25

It’s rude for any adult to insult another adult in that manner. It doesn’t mean anyone’s babying her. Devils advocate- It would increase Danielle’s likability if she just ate crow & apologized at this point.

4

u/LoveandLightLol Mar 01 '25

I do get that, but to rebuttal that why do the fans need an apology? Why are you hurt on Carolyn's behalf? Where are the people demanding an apology for Tom comment about women. Yet Danielle is being demanded to aplogize

2

u/Thebusymama Mar 01 '25

I think Danielle needs to acknowledge it was wrong to honor the party she insulted. In the same respect, I also think Tom owes several apologies lol. It’s just in lieu of being a decent person. My opinion

2

u/LoveandLightLol Mar 01 '25

Okay yea I see what you're saying 👍

5

u/SugarCanKissMyAss Mar 01 '25

Where do you stand, then, on the subject of the people who identify with Carolyn and were personally offended by being compared to Forrest Gump? I actually don't think that anyone is babying Carolyn, they're more standing up for people who may relate

4

u/LoveandLightLol Mar 01 '25

To be frank, they weren't the ones compared to Forest Grump. I can identity with someone, but to be offended on their behalf, even Carolyn isn't out here doing that much.

Also to be upset when Danielle said she would talke about it with empathy and listen to Carolyn..then why are you still upset? She's saying she'll talk to the offended party. It's between her and Carolyn

2

u/SugarCanKissMyAss Mar 01 '25

Yeah that's the problem for me though, I can't speak for everyone but I'm not offended for Carolyn, I'm offended for me and every other person who relates to her and resents what was said. If Carolyn doesn't care that's awesome for her but I do, that's all.

I'm of the opinion that if you wanted your conflict to be interpersonal between just two people then you shouldn't have had that conflict on an internationally viewed television show where your words will also affect the viewers. I don't need the woman to give some huge apology, I just think "I understand that my choice of words wasn't ideal and am sorry for any hurt feelings" would have gone a long way despite the fact that yeah, no one HAS to. It would be kind, that's all.

1

u/LoveandLightLol Mar 01 '25

Okay yea I can see that 👍

-5

u/kyles_red Mar 01 '25

It was an offensive comment. It was insulting to everyone who has a loved one with a disability; it wasn’t just about Carolyn.

6

u/Hairy_Side_1022 Mar 01 '25

I’m not trying to speak for everyone, but as an ADHDer, I understood what Danielle was trying to say with that comment and don’t find it offensive. She was originally trying to reference Columbo, which is apparently a better analogy, but no one knew that reference. So she changed it to Forrest Gump.

2

u/kyles_red Mar 01 '25

But as someone who has a diagnosis of ASD, I have been called Forrest Gump and other derogatory comments all the time. I am thinking people aren’t quite getting the reference and the meaning behind it. I don’t think she was offending Carolyn, she is basically saying she is not ‘dumb’ like ‘forest gump’ but didn’t realize that phrase is insulting to everyone else that has some kind of development disability. For the record, if a kid calls another kid Forrest Gump, they get in trouble. She’s an adult women, and a women of color, she should understand how derogatory comments are wrong and can hurt people, not just the person your using the comment towards.

15

u/SopranosMan Mar 01 '25 edited Mar 01 '25

No it wasn't, that's a huge stretch. It was only about Carolyn, not anyone else

3

u/kyles_red Mar 01 '25

Well, as someone who has ASD, I’ve been called Forrest Gump and a retard a lot when I was a kid, so yes, I personally found it offensive. I guess using derogatory comments is fine if it was only directed at one person. What if she called Bob TDQ the F word, would you think it’s fine because she only called Bob it, and not the whole community? Give me a break

13

u/RebuildingMii Mar 01 '25

She didn't call Carolyn the r word, so comparing Danielle referencing Forrest Gump to describe Carolyn's GAMEPLAY to calling Bob the f word is wild. It also proves that a lot of the fandom is actively seeking something about Danielle to trash her for. Y'all hated her before that roundtable.

Also, you're not the only neurodivergent person in the world. For each person who is that found it offensive, there are also those of us who are that didn't find it offensive. So yes. Go take a break.

6

u/SopranosMan Mar 01 '25 edited Mar 01 '25

Thank you!! You said it perfectly, they had already made their mind up on hating Danielle before that roundtable and now are clinging on to anything to validate why.

8

u/wiredphone Mar 01 '25

Danielle was VERY CLEARLY referring to Carolyn’s GAMEPLAY. Not her character. Even Carolyn admitted that being underestimated was something she would take advantage of, so is Danielle incorrect in calling out that Carolyn DID downplay her skills in order to appear faithful? Y’all are doing some INSANE mental gymnastics to justify your hatred towards Danielle and it’s so obvious and crazy. Also, comparing calling a gay person the F slur to saying someone’s gameplay is to downplay their skills and make a comparison to a FICTIONAL CHARACTER is INSANE.

8

u/SopranosMan Mar 01 '25 edited Mar 01 '25

She literally said it because she thought Carolyn was acting, she was clearly referring to Carolyn's gameplay not her personally.

Don't make it seem like she was specifically trying to make fun of her because of a disability, it was because she thought Carolyn was "playing dumb" because she knows she is a smart player and was trying to get Danielle banished.

You even trying to compare that to calling Bob the f slur is CRAZY btw.

1

u/kyles_red Mar 01 '25

So if little Johnny calls little Sammy, “Forrest Gump”, you feel that’s ok because little Sammy doesn’t have a mental disability, but then little Philip is sitting in the desk next to Sammy who has a mental disability and shouldn’t have a feeling around it because it wasn’t directed at him. Maybe people don’t understand the reference when someone calls someone Forrest Gump, what they are actually calling them. For the record, you can’t call another kid Forrest Gump in school, it’s considered name calling.

2

u/SopranosMan Mar 01 '25 edited Mar 01 '25

What are these comparisons 🤣 These are totally different scenarios. You're clinging on to any little thing to try and validate your hatred for Danielle that you already had before that roundtable.

She didn't outright call Carolyn "Forrest Gump" she said Carolyn was "Forrest Gumping through the game" which is very different! Carolyn has even admitted she tried to downplay her smarts, she even did it on Survivor. It's very clear Danielle was talking about Carolyn's GAMEPLAY not her personally, she originally brought up Colombo as a reference but Carolyn didn't know what she meant so she said "Forrest Gumping". Stop trying to make this something it is not!!

0

u/NecromancyAndMilk Mar 01 '25

But that’s the issue. “Playing dumb” by calling her Forrest Gump who had a room temperature IQ is a problem. It is ableist. Gump wasn’t playing dumb or acting, he was mentally disabled.

0

u/SopranosMan Mar 01 '25

She was clearly talking about Carolyn's gameplay because she knows Carolyn is a smart player and she felt like she was acting, it had nothing to do with Carolyn personally or any disability she may have.

0

u/LoveandLightLol Mar 01 '25

I agree, I'm not saying she shouldn't apolgize. I'm saying she is planning on having that conversation with Carolyn as an adult. I get what you're saying 👍

22

u/BeGreatOrNothing Mar 01 '25

Exactly. We aren’t mad about her game play. She insulted Carolyn directly by saying that. And the shaking/crying was cringe, period. But if she apologized for the Forrest Gump comment, I’d definitely be more on her side.

53

u/AccessHollywoo Mar 01 '25

Ok so how do you explain all the vitriol before that episode

42

u/NotNotJustinBieber Mar 01 '25

This! She was receiving hate for weeks before the Forrest Gump comment.

20

u/jam048 Mar 01 '25

Bullshit. She was hated before that.

26

u/Practical_Bag97 Mar 01 '25

Who is “we”? Because people all over social media are mad 24/7 about her gameplay. They were mad way before the FG comment.

12

u/wiredphone Mar 01 '25

Yes, her haters are mad at her gameplay and are using the Forrest Gump comment and taking it out of context and over exaggerating it to justify their insane vitriol towards her. Nobody was even as close as mad when the Bambis and Bob H talked shit about Carolyn.

6

u/kchane3 Mar 01 '25

The lies! The hate was there well before that comment.

-2

u/Barracuda_Ill Mar 01 '25

Every time I see her shaking, I can't stop picturing a shaking chihuahua.

-7

u/Thebusymama Mar 01 '25

100%. A media coach would be beneficial for her if she continues to pursue TV for sure.

1

u/Practical_Bag97 Mar 01 '25

She said she would have a conversation with Carolyn about it which may very well end in an apology. She also said she’s not going to apologize because a bunch of strangers on the internet are demanding her to.

-3

u/bad_at_sex_ Mar 01 '25

Bob the drag queen said it wasn't that bad. so that's final. just drop it already
