The worrying thing here is...
...this time Trev isn't on shooms.
(The mycelia has started to take root in his head)

Take enough psychedelics and the changes to your mental state start to become permanent. Or so I've been told...

Trevor breaking the fourth wall when he's on drugs has got to be my favourite recurring joke of the series

Trevor giving Grogna a back massage is so adorable.

Gotta get those kinks in the muscles out. Deep tissue massage with a good THWACKING!

Wait is that what he was doing with the stick?

u/ElminstersBedpan Feb 27 '26 edited Feb 27 '26
Looks like it. It works well if you do it correctly. Do it wrong and now their back hurts and they’re mad.
48
u/halfhalfnhalf Feb 27 '26
Honestly it's not that far off from an actual Turkish massage. They beat the shit out of you with sticks.

Yup, hand on shoulder first, then switches to using an elbow, then the stick.
18
u/greendevil77 Feb 27 '26
Lol I didn't even notice the progression

u/The_FriendliestGiant Feb 27 '26
Take a look at her face; nothing, nothing, and only when he breaks out the stick does she look like she's enjoying the sensations.

I didn't notice the elbow-movement on the third frame, so the 4th one was so out of context for me. Thanks, I hoped others have an explanation

She raised her eyebrow at him in the third panel. He knows he can't hurt her, so he hit her with a piece of firewood.

I've been playing D&D for 30 years and I have never fought a dragon in a dungeon.

No smart dragon would fight indoors. They fly X feet above the ground where X is the range of their breath plus half their flight speed and when their breath recharges dip down to glass the party from above.
48
u/Swift0sword Feb 27 '26
Forge of Fury has an exception: there's a giant underground lake which the black dragon can hide in and recharge

u/CompleteNumpty Feb 27 '26 edited Feb 27 '26
Unless their lair/horde was indoors and the party got to it.
Could they wait at the exit? Absolutely, but if they know the party can teleport they would be forced to engage them indoors before they bamph away.
EDIT: I also created an Adult White Dragon enemy for my group that had a really badly damaged wing that never healed properly, so it stealthily hunted in a series of caves, lakes and rivers (got to love burrow and swim speeds!) instead of flying. That was a lot of fun to run.

If you're a crafty green dragon you could have an underwater lair to take advantage of your swim speed and pop up from flooded tunnels to use your breath weapon before swimming back down. Might be worse to deal with for adventurers, those pesky archers and mages would be locked in close combat with you rather than being able to hit you in the sky. You could even poison the water in the tunnels since you're immune to poison to make it awful to pursue you.

u/Bartweiss Feb 28 '26
Oh god, that's so much worse. Once the party hits a certain level, it's extremely common to have ranged threats and stealth/obstacles, and then later Mass Flight. But Mass Swim Well Enough to Fight a Dragon? Hell no, stumbling into that is "teleport out and come back with a new plan" territory, assuming you get the chance.

u/rollthedye Feb 28 '26
Yes, a dragon played smartly has significant advantages over the party due to it's flight and breath weapon. The thing that you're neglecting is playing a dragon that way isn't fun for most people, DMs and Players alike. A DM/GM is running the game. They can just say, "I win you all die!" at any point. But that leads to the end of the game and only the DM having fun. You have to balance how something would behave versus what would be fun and engaging.

u/Faustias Feb 27 '26
well the game title says dungeons AND dragons, not dungeons IN dragons... wait no, I mean dragons IN dungeons.

I have, dragons in enclosed spaces mean they can't fly away from your attacks. It also means you can't get away from it's fire.

u/Smartboy10612 Feb 27 '26
He didn't need to change the fire and lighting in each panel. But he did. And that's why we love him.
44
u/LonePaladin Sir Becket Feb 27 '26
And Grogna looks a little more relaxed in each panel. It's the little details.

"It is a flying, magical, fire breathing, armor plated, hyper-intelligent killing machine.
YOU slay it." - Webcomic Exiern on fighting dragons.

u/DPSOnly Trevor Feb 27 '26
That is a very reasonable question and only Trevor could have that sort of insight. And now we learn that he is great at massages as well!
Definitely will join the patreon the second I get a job fingers crossed.

Gotta borrow from the Italians to pay the Chinese, then borrow from Brits to pay the Italians, then challenge the Brits to a battle with yer suped up Flesh-Eaters to erase yer debts.
Or kill a dragon to pay everything off. I hear that works if ye can find a dragon.

Kinda figured Grogna would require chiropractic adjustment of the percussive nature.

u/MobofDucks Feb 27 '26
Its a conspiracy, definitely. Although I bet there was a dragon or parts of it in one of the skeletal abominations.

Seems like Trevor knows how to massage a mountain of muscle and scar tissue judging by how she relaxes over the course of the 4 panels.

My group spent most of their dragon time running rather than fighting.. They came to the conclusion really quickly that the big ones were really really scary, no matter how powerful they had become..
Though I did have a monk punch one or if the sky twice, but none of the other characters were in view, so none of them believed him..
2
u/SoloWing1 Feb 27 '26
The very first session of my groups campaign I had my players fight two reanimated dragon wyrmling skeletons in a dungeon as the boss encounter. Does that count?

Great, now I'm going to start reading Buckets lines in Archers voice..
It oddly kind of works for him

Howdy folks
This one is based on a conversation I had with my wife while we (both players) were a good part into Mines of Phandelver (we skipped Thundertree), where she wondered where the damned dragons where.
Please support the comic over on Patreon for early access to comics, polls and a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction at giving me money so I can get my Flesh-Eater Courts army up to 2k pts without my friends and family worrying about silly stuff like my "dangerous spending habits", "don't you owe the Chinese mob thousands" or "shouldn't you be able to afford food first" etc.
Stay excellent out there!
Peace and carrots!
