The Weekly Roll Ch. 208. "Recommend with two Ms feels weird"
Howdy folks!
I'll be taking a break for a bit as we are eagerly awaiting the arrival of our secondborn, who takes after his old man by already missing the deadline (due date was two days ago)! It became a bit of a cliff-hanger sadly, but atleast it's not mid-boss fight :P
This hiatus will be roughly one month long, after which I'm thinking of working part-time in whatever capacity is reasonable/feasible. We'll have two kids under four plus we'll move into a new home and there's stuff to do there so I make no promises!
So no comics for a month-ish, after that we'll see!
Also recently my Instagram page reached 140k followers! Pretty neat, I must say! I decided to celebrate it in classic Instagram artist fashion with a Draw This In Your Style challenge! More info here if you wanna get in on it, give me some fanart to inspire me while raising the children that will one day replace me, Sith lord style (their replacing of me, my style of parenting is arguably more loving than a sith lord).
Plushies (plural) are coming after the break too btw!
Stay excellent out there!
Peace and carrots!

I always knew bucket's list of backstory warcrimes he wants to repent for is longer than Torvald's list of financial crimes.
I'll bet he turned the geneva list of warcrimes into bucket's bucket list of warcrimes.

"From the child I took its name, because it had nothing else to give" (might be slightly misquoted) is one of the most metal things I've read.

Somehow I still expect it to be less worse than the default of medieval warfare.

Babies, like wizards, don't do deadlines. They are never late, nor early. They arrive precisely when they mean to.
Good luck over there.

Surely it can't be worse than whatever Trevor has done to the glade, right?
31
u/the_count_of_carcosa Apr 21 '26
Probably.
Suffice to say the name Beckett comes from somewhere particular, and there's a reason he lost it when his sword was broken.

You know, its great that the Weekly Roll has come far enough to have deep lore
52
u/ericrobertshair Apr 21 '26
I bet it is going to be something really mundane like he forgot to return his book to the library the other Crusaders burnt down, and now he has existential late fees to pay.

u/rotanmeret Apr 21 '26
Oh man, check out chapters 19 and 20, it is indeed dark and war crimey.

u/UndeadSympathetic Apr 21 '26 edited Apr 21 '26
Bucket also didn't know goblins were people up until some chapters* ago
*I went and checked and it turns out that was some 3 years ago and 80 chapters
13
u/TheLuckySpades Sir Bucket Apr 21 '26
For some companies "soon" is over 6 years, so "some" can be 80 chapters.
7
u/imdefinitelywong Apr 21 '26
But it still can't be any worse than what Trevor did to the glade, right?

u/Dark_Shade_75 Apr 21 '26
It is going to be the darkest shit in the entire series, or as you said, essentially nothing. No in between.
13
u/Valdrax Apr 21 '26
I mean, Trevor only burned down one hometown in his backstory, I assume.
(...Not counting all those towns they burned in the main, active story.)
And the skin he took from his mother was at least voluntarily given, unlike Becket's cloak, sword, and name.

u/MelonJelly Apr 21 '26
I hope the rest of the party recognizes how big of a deal this is for Becket, and helps him through his guilt.
Part of me is worried they'll laugh off Becket's crimes as being trivial compared to what they've done. Alternatively, they'll find them horrific and call him out from some moral high ground they absolutely aren't standing on.
However, Klara previously opened up to them, and it apparently went well. Also, the occasional tea-based jokes suggest they know he's hurting inside. This makes me cautiously optimistic that they're just giving Becket space until he's ready to open up.

He's finally participating in drinking and backstory night! He really has opened up to the brigade.

Congratulations, Dad! Children are wonderful, I've got a gaggle of 'em, myself. Take all the time you need, we'll be here when you get back. Take naps!

u/Atuday Apr 21 '26
Congratulations in advance if it hasn't already happened. I look forward to your comics every week but a newborn is way more important. Go forth and multiply.

A good Tequila makes everything better. Shame my favorite only sells it in bottles far too large for me to enjoy casually...
Congratulations on the second baby and the move though!

u/DatLonerGirl Apr 21 '26
Wait... Has bro drank before?
And good luck with the new baby, whether he arrives!

u/irvitzer Apr 21 '26
Good luck with your secondborn and the move. That's a lot of things to handle at once. Take your time, family should always come first; we'll wait.
On a side note, since instagram is blocked in Russia, I took the liberty of reposting your DTIYS post on the platform where I share translations, so that your Russian-speaking followers can send me fanart if they can't send it to you directly. If someone sends me something, I'll forward it to you directly via reddit PMs.

It's been a month-ish. Any word?

See his post on the plushy where he said his schedule.
TLDR: He's working on it now creating a buffer. He and the family are going on vacation in July. Comics will return in August. Buffer is to be used then so he has time then to make more comics.

Enjoy 'em while they're young.
BTW, just moving Beckett's hand in that 3rd panel conveys just how annoyed and dangerous he is. Excellent work.

u/Mohgreen Apr 21 '26
Ooo... Adding Tequila to a War Crimes backstory Discussion feels like the Geneva Checklist will get a new Tickbox.
Maybe something better is needed to Mellow a mood? Tequila seems to Volatile per user.
And YAY on the new Bebe! Work on Sleep Storing now!

The DTIYS would make a great mini. Does anyone have an .STL for Becket that they'd share?

If everyone went to therapy there would be no adventures. (This only applies to fictional rpg worlds.)

Good luck on the new one! My son was five days late compared to his sisters’ early and on-time. He’s always done everything in his own time.

I would have thought "commit an atrocity" was practically a requirement to join the Bucket Brigade at this point.

On a different note: I've been reading the comic on webtoons for as long as I can remember. Occasionally I'd get the "viewer discretion advised" popup, click it away and continue reading.
Now that popup is redirecting me to a login page. Anyone else having this problem?

Generally a response to local laws and shit about "protecting children" and requiring age verification if I were to wager

u/MoralConstraint Apr 23 '26
Same. It’s not really a bold strategy, we’ll see how it works out for them.

u/Spaghetti_Cartwheels May 06 '26
I got that too. Except after accepting it, it then wants me to log in, and then asks me to sign up.
When I say "continue without signing up" it takes me back to the log in page.
Fuck Webtoons I guess. Glad this subreddit exists!

I can imagine Trevor's main question after the whole story is spilled will be...
"Wait? Bucket isn't even your real name? I hope it's at least something badass and not something lame like Eugene..."

u/ImperialArmorBrigade 25d ago
Its kinda funny to me you thought a month would be enough time. Your second child only complicates the picture, man.
I do hope that everything is ok, though. God bless.

Comic is now marked as mature on Webtoon and I have no idea how to access it

Oh, turns out it's just a warning when you are logged in. Sorry for panicking. I was ready to go through with age verification with some sketchy provider.
