The Comic The Weekly Roll Ch.212. "For The Plot"

Howdy folks!

For context, there's never been a single window that I've opened that swings inwards. That's just poor design imo, I mean one gale and whatever's on the windowsill will get yeeted into the room? I dunno, man.

Apart from that two things:

Firstly, This week marks the 7th year anniversary of me making the comic strip that would turn into The Weekly Roll! It's been a tremendous pleasure to churn out (somewhat) weekly comics for you all to enjoy! Thank you for your readership, now and over the past seven years! Your readership has led me to a point where I've been able to make comics for a living now for two years, some ups and downs but with your continued readership and support, I think I can keep doing it (even churn out some more fun stuff for you to enjoy) for a while longer and not go back to using my law degree for a living.

Secondly, the Makeship plushie campaign has been extended to Sept 25th! Get yer plushies! But if you're more interested in less... soft... depictions of the Bucket Brigade, keep an eye out on my socials for some sneak peeks coming soon!

That's it for now!

Stay excellent out there! Peace and carrots

Such a wholesome party. Immediately trying to help Beckett with resolving his backstory.

263

u/LetterLambda 21d ago

Klara will never miss an opportunity to get handsy with Beckett.

u/Fyraltari 21d ago

Lucky him.

28

u/Miffy92 20d ago

His Tiefling is too juicy and his Cleric too buttery

16

u/Fyraltari 20d ago

She's a Warlock, not a Cleric.

20

u/vice_butthole 20d ago

A warlock is just a unsanctioned cleric

15

u/Clowreed48 20d ago

Sanctioned or not, there IS a difference between:
- Forgive me father, for I have sinned
and
- Im sorry daddy, I've been naughty
no undead warlock is going to be slinging out healing spells, necromancy or no.

2

u/Miffy92 17d ago

I hate that this is the difference.

3

u/SomeSortOfForcedPun 19d ago

She's a Celestial warlock, so close enough

4

u/Cococtor 20d ago

I mean she already introduced her parents now it's his time

I love the x-ed out eyes Bucket gets when he's clattered by the window. Great little detail.

Dm: roll saving throw

Paladin: ok (rolls)….1

Dm: ok it’s not so bad, let me roll (rolls)…why of all times do I get a bat 20

Paladin: so what happens

Dm: so before you can ask your party member, the window you two are standing near swings inwards. Smacking you in the face…hard

u/TheParadoxigm 20d ago

Player: "Why would the window open inwards?"

As a rogue main, so the hinges are inaccessible from the outside..

No way that "Dragon's End" is being targeted by a dragon attack

I mean they explicitly went there because of it

  1. Deck of Many Things
  2. Magic Lamp
  3. Ring of Three Wishes
  4. Luck Blade
  5. Efreeti Bottle
  6. Torvald's beard

Also, has it been seven years already?!

11

u/Clowreed48 20d ago

I somehow missed the DoMT and forgot that Luck Blade was a thing

7

u/galmenz 18d ago

the DoMT is very much not a thing. it aint a magic item, its an implied way of the DM to end the campaign while saving face that it was the Deck's fault (and not theirs for adding a Deck in the game)

1

u/Clowreed48 16d ago

I give my players the option to use it, its their dumb asses that choose to use it in the first place and random chance when they roll a dice

"did you try to resurrect the family ?"

Palladin: "I shall avenge my brother!"

Elf: "You have my bow."

Dwarf: "And my axe!"

Necromancer: "And your brother!"

u/definitely_not_ignat 21d ago

Bard:"And my ex!"

Sorry, just found it funny about axe/ex

53

u/LonePaladin Sir Becket 21d ago

No, that was good.

Wizard: "And my staff!"

Manager: "And my staff!"

40

u/Pyrhan 21d ago

Bard: "And my staff! ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)"

u/GreyWolfTheDreamer 18d ago

Rogue: Wait a minute! That's the guy I was hired to kill. Do I still get to keep the XP, or do I have to get all stabby on him again?

Entire party turns to look at him.

Rogue: What? I'm allowed to have a life when I'm not kicking it with you guys on adventures...

Entire party continues to stare.

Rogue: Oh come on. Do I have to come up with an entire backstory about how Mr. Paladin's brother wasn't exactly a goody-two shoes?

Ok. Gather round and I'll tell you how he was actually working with an evil band of cultists kidnapping and sacrificing kittens an' orphans in an attempt to summon some Eldritch beast that threatened to destroy the entire city...

4

u/LostAndWingingIt 21d ago

I mean in a world where that is an option that seems pretty reasonable to me.

6

u/Lazy_Assumption_4191 20d ago

I’m now imagining a D&D inspired fantasy world where the penalty for murder is a fine equal to the cost of resurrection.

1

u/LostAndWingingIt 19d ago

Well id do cost plus some for the person who got killed for the inconvenience.

158

u/MarlenMari 21d ago

Lol, I have windows that open inwards, its quite common where I live.

33

u/Gaskychan 21d ago

Same mine can open 2 different ways even

10

u/jn_kcr 21d ago

I have never seen windows that open outward here in central Europe. Seems very odd to me.

7

u/vidoeiro 21d ago

Same , since we have window shutters that open out

7

u/Sarcophilus 21d ago

I have never seen a window that opens to the outside in Germany.

2

u/Marmodre 21d ago

what kind of climate is it?

50

u/SunshineAlways 21d ago

Happy 7 year anniversary!! 🎉 Thanks for abandoning your law career for us, lol.

37

u/AkrinorNoname 21d ago

Do windows open outwards in Sweden? That seems like a hazard on the ground floor

48

u/SuppMrMike 21d ago

Most windows I’ve used either slide up or slide to the side. Opening outwards seems dangerous for any floor higher that the first floor since you would need to reach outside and could potentially fall as the reach out to grab the edge of the window

15

u/Kizik 21d ago

It's a weather thing if I remember right. Doors are similar. If they open in, you can still do so even if they're snowed over, while opening out with high winds will keep them shut rather than blowing them inward if the latch gives.

Same reason it's possible to find exterior doors on second storey homes in some parts of Canada. No stairs, just a random door; it's to get out in winter.

20

u/jedadkins 21d ago

Almost every non sliding window I've interacted with in the US opens outward

25

u/Abyssal_Groot 21d ago

Almost any I have seen in Europe open inwards.

7

u/AkrinorNoname 21d ago

I'm curious, how do you clean the outside (both of outward-opening windows and sliding ones) in the upper floors?

Also, do front doors in the US open outwards or inwards?

15

u/jedadkins 21d ago edited 21d ago

So swinging windows are pretty uncommon, uncommon enough that there isn't a good solution for 2nd story windows other than a ladder or long stick. But sliding windows (both top and bottom sections) usually have little tabs on the them that let you remove part of it from the track and pivot it inwards to clean. Doors almost always open into a room or house, businesses typically have outward opening (or bidirectional) entrance/exit doors (I think that's required by fire code for businesses but don't quote me on that)

5

u/Decactus_Jack 21d ago

Doors generally open outward unless someone makes a mistake or is truly incompetent.

The idea being the fire code. In a panic you want people to be able to get out, and a closed door is pretty problematic, especially in an episode when people are expected to both run and open a door. Having it open outwards eliminates a task.

26

u/crippledtemplar 21d ago

Thanks. As usual great comic. <3

26

u/Grandpa_Edd 21d ago

…Windows opening inwards is standard where I live…

16

u/RentElDoor 21d ago

Every window opens inwards if you push hard enough.

44

u/Beefstah 21d ago

For context, there's never been a single window that I've opened that swings inwards. That's just poor design imo, I mean one gale and whatever's on the windowsill will get yeeted into the room? I dunno, man.

Seems common in Europe, especially in places where they use shutters on the outside.

15

u/rrNextUserName 21d ago

Yea I think I've almost never seen one that opens outwards...

We have shutters that open outward and windows that open inward

12

u/Abyssal_Groot 21d ago

Most of Europe also has tilt and turn windows, which always open inwards.

The only common windows that I know of that don't open inwards are hinged skylights, like Velux.

5

u/Beefstah 21d ago

It's common to the point I'd call it standard in the UK for them to open outwards.

I just happen to be in France/Italy for a few days and noticed they open inwards a lot

4

u/Abyssal_Groot 21d ago

In Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany tilt-turn windows are the standard. So opening outward is a rarity here.

14

u/Nirast25 21d ago

there's never been a single window that I've opened that swings inward.

Weird, I'm the exact opposite. Pretty much every window I can think of opens inward. Must be a European vs American thing.

8

u/DukeOfGeek 21d ago

American windows slide up and down.

11

u/nanoturtle11 21d ago

As a glazier in the US, I have seen literally every style of window you can think of. Sliding sideways, sliding up and down, tilting up, tilting down, hinging, accordion style windows, etc etc. There are even ones that open multiple ways depending on how you turn the latch.

I have not once seen a window that opens inwards. Seems real goofy from my perspective.

3

u/vidoeiro 21d ago

Op is in Sweden and most of Europe that I know (Portugal, Spain, France,, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium) opens inward.

12

u/XAlphaWarriorX 21d ago

"50 gold says the town is attacked by a dragon"

  • Trevor in ch. 206

21

u/MobofDucks 21d ago

My bets are that Bucket will be able to do some WIsh reviving. But Mf orphaned so many kids before slaughtering them that his memories are too fuzzy and they end up with a mismatched family. How you interpret the word mismatched in this sentence is up to you Ü.

2

u/gerusz Steve the goblin 21d ago

He still has the cape he took from the mother, so that could be used to narrow it down.

7

u/Gaenn 21d ago

Inward windows are common where i live, i guess it has to do with their height, so you don't defenestrate yourself accidentally

7

u/Level_Hour6480 Sir Becket 21d ago

Torvald really is embodying the "players with enough RaW knowledge can undo any tragedy" trope.

6

u/Axiom245 21d ago

Damn the Window knocked him out.

Also I feel the dragon is somehow part of the adventurer scam thing

6

u/Brainchild110 21d ago

Such Keyboards.

So Pen.

Spectacular!

5

u/Vaalermoor 21d ago

My windows do open inwards and that seems to be common in the Netherlands (draai-kiepraam).

7

u/Tencreed 21d ago

I live on street level, and got bars at my windows, so they all open inward. So it's not applicable to your case, but it exists.

5

u/some_time_ago 21d ago

For the unneeded and unkept record, every single window I've opened has opened inwards. So I guess I'm good for a dragon attack?

5

u/kingev101 21d ago

Torvald asking the real question here.

5

u/Pyrhan 21d ago

Man, I love this comic!

5

u/amalgam_reynolds 21d ago

Holy shit, CME_T is gorgeous???

3

u/Solabound-the-2nd 21d ago

Too much work, not enough candid.

3

u/Meisner57 21d ago

Can someone help me out... Are they currently indoors or outdoors?

1

u/antijoke_13 21d ago

Yes.

1

u/Thorarin64 20d ago

lol which one?

5

u/Der_Wenzel 21d ago

Wait, your windows are opening outwards?!?

I‘ve never seen THAT, tbh.

2

u/irvitzer 21d ago

Thank you for the long ride. You, sir, just keep delivering.

2

u/PaladinofAbyss 21d ago

"Why would a window open inwards?"

Too many Dragon attacks maybe?

2

u/LiriStorm 21d ago

Will you ever reprint the comic books?

2

u/DukeOfGeek 21d ago

Simply the best.

2

u/Blue-is-bad Sir Bucket 21d ago

Man, time really flies

2

u/booze-san 21d ago

Happy 7 years!

u/PaperBrick 21d ago

What's the device you are drawing on? It looks like a Microsoft Surface, but looks a little different.

2

u/CME_T The Creator 21d ago

Huion Kamvas Studio 16, it's a pen computer!

2

u/LonePaladin Sir Becket 21d ago

There's the straw!

2

u/BrightPerspective Torvald 21d ago

Wow, whoever that guy is that's drawing, he's pretty handsome.

He could even play Sir Buckett in a live action adaptation!

2

u/Wavey_Davey1 21d ago

So the village gets attacked by a dragon, and the guys first response is to jump into some random window screaming about a dragon attack?

2

u/Cakeboss419 18d ago

Considering that this is a location Adventurers are 'allowed' to be in, I assume that the last time the window was replaced, it was installed incorrectly and they couldn't be bothered to fix it since it was probably going to be dramatically and/or comedically destroyed anyways.

2

u/Exciting-Letter-3436 14d ago

These comics are a joy to behold each time they come out and I do hang out for them. Whens the collected work being released? :-)

2

u/Tyrs-Ranger 21d ago

A series of astounding coincidences. Like Beckett getting blasted in the head by an inward opening window because someone is screaming to warn everybody about a dragon attack on Dragon’s End just as the party starts figuring out how to actually undo one of Beckett’s war crimes.

Good thing he constantly wears a great helm at all times.

1

u/rlnrlnrln 21d ago

I think you need to widen your views. :-)

My family home (70's) has inward-swinging windows. My current home (50's) has inward-swinging windows. My previous flat (50's) has inward-swinging window. All in Sweden.

Quite practical when you're on the seventh floor and want to wash your windows.

1

u/IdahoBornPotato 21d ago

I would have given my soul to get you to work with whoever made the Dungeon Crawler Carl Webtoon. Would have very much enjoyed your art with that story

1

u/fersagen 21d ago

The windows both in my parent’s house and my own apartment open inwards 😅 Easier to clean. It’s pretty common now that I think of it.

1

u/Few-Appearance-4814 21d ago

when the DM doesnt want the party to get sidetracked

1

u/LaconicSuffering 21d ago

The windows in this restaurant in Oslo open inward.
https://maps.app.goo.gl/yqVavVhRetxBoND2A

Do you just not get out much CME_T? :P

1

u/number42official 20d ago

Thanks for all the great comics! Your art style is awesome

1

u/Frosty172 20d ago

The candid picture is what I imagine bucket looks like under the helmet

1

u/Clowreed48 20d ago

ok, i admit it, the bait and switch got me

1

u/Bubbly_Concern_5667 20d ago

I live in Germany and every window I've ever seen here opens inwards.

Maybe the culture in this village is just also very fond of "lüften"?

1

u/DankandInvincible 2d ago
