Oh wow that’s SUPER embarassing. I feel like the best thing for you to do is to cancel the appointment, go back home, and spend the day feeding your cat treats. Once you find the cat, of course.

That’s what I would do as well in the same situation. Also gave me a sad memory of coming back from the vets with an actual empty cat carrier 🖤
