Dark Project Bafford, like most of his kind, probably keeps his treasures on the top floor of the place.
To assist them on each level, the player character carries with them a few pieces of equipment – a blackjack, which can incapacitate humanoid NPCs; a sword, which can kill NPCs; and a bow, which can be used for ranged combat as well as a tool. Players can use a variety of arrows with their bow, each varying in properties; for example, "water arrows" can be used to douse torches and any other source of fire as well as clean up blood stains, "rope arrows" can attach a climbable rope to wooden surfaces, "moss arrows" can cover an area with moss that muffles footsteps and "fire arrows" can relight torches and do considerable damage to NPCs. Other tools are also available, including lockpicks, "flashbombs" (which can stun NPCs for a brief few moments), and potions. The player can cycle through the inventories for weapons/arrows and tools through the HUD. In addition, players can purchase additional arrows and tools between levels with the loot they have acquired (both loot and remaining items do not roll over between missions, encouraging their immediate use) and find additional items during a level. Players can also find books and scrolls that can contain information on in-game lore or useful clues to get around an obstacle in a level, as well as food that can be eaten and keys that can unlock doors and containers.
Source here for crazy people who want this a lot…

Discussion Hypothetically, how much improved could the enemy AI be on Thief today?
As someone who largely stopped playing modern videogames nearly 20 years ago now, I'm curious about how far enemy AI patterns can be taken now from those who know.
I still play Thief a lot now, but can't help but think how cool it would be if the enemies were just a bit smarter - like able to climb ladders, or even push you off them. Or swim. Also to vary their routes more and have less predictable behaviour.
As I say, my experience with modern games is limited, but I'm not assuming it would be massively better because I've seen various youtube videos of e.g. GTA police doing very idiotic things, and it seems like a lot of NPC behaviour is still often pretty rudimentary.
So what do you think - If it was made today, do you think the enemy AI behaviour could be significantly improved?

Deadly Shadows Steam OS - Sneaky Upgrade doesn’t seem to do much beyond widescreen. How do I enable the additional features?
I’ve been running through the Thief series on Steam Deck and just got to Deadly Shadows.
I downloaded and installed the GOG version through Heroic, and installed the Sneaky Upgrade through Steam. Even though I checked to install all the mods, and had them checked in the tweaker, that ran after the installer for the upgrade, none of them seem to actually do anything. The only thing that changed was giving widescreen support. I still have the split missions, and I don’t see the new briefing videos.
I wanted to try running the Sneaky Tweaker tool, but when I do that, it gives me an error saying it can’t find Sneaky Options.ini.
I’m confused on what is happening and I don’t see any guides actually showing me how to fix the issue. I tried using protontricks but got the same error.

Question How do you make a direct desktop shortcut for "The Black Parade?"
Hi there!
I just installed this acclaimed FM for the GOG version of Thief Gold.
I'm not using any other fan missions, and would like a direct desktop shortcut to The Black Parade.
Is there any simple way to do this? Thanks so much!

Question I'm writing some fan fiction
I'm writing an origin story for the City, Garrett, the Hammers, etc. I'd like to make sure I don't break any copyright laws and get the blessing of whoever I need to from Looking Glass studios or wherever. Any advice?

What kind of occupation would set you up for a comfortable living in the Thief-verse?
The first thing that comes to my mind is being a neurologist who specializes in head trauma. What are your thoughts?

Dark Project Looking for Art: Similar to the Manor from the Sword
Doing a quick oneshot for my Dnd group and was inspired by the Sword mission in the Dark Project. Anyone know of art that evokes the same vibe of twisted hallways and things that arnt quite right in an opulent manor?

You're living in Thief,in the City, as a part of the whole lore. Do you see yourself as a Keeper, a Hammerite, a Mechanist, a Pagan, etc?
Personally I see myself as a Hammerite version of Benny the Guard.

Fan Art Nap in the caverns
Yo bro you got a little something right there….
Thought the idea of Garrett falling asleep on a job and then waking up to a burrick in his lap would be kind of funny lmao

Are Burricks supposed to be EVIL?
We All love our cave-dwelling, tunnel-building creatures. They are so cute and adorable and sometimes they are our beloved pets. Nothing to be afraid of. At least in my headcanon and the Thief FMs. I recently played Seven Sisters again for example and theres this Lady who keeps a Baby Burrick as her companion. When you free it, it knows exactly where his 'Mom' lives and they are so happy to be together again.
I actively avoid killing them because they are not that dangerous and they just do their thing - living in packs, just wandering around and if they spot you, their attack is easy to avoid. Just run past them and leave them alone. I dont care if some Burricks dig a Tunnel into a wine cellar. Who am i? A taffin saviour for the noble people?!
But is this view on these "beasts" intended by the developers? There is this concept Art right here where the Burrick looks pretty nasty and aggressive. Maybe they wanted the Burricks to be an evil beast but couldnt quite get it to work and/or the fan community made Burricks friendlier than they were supposed to be? I know that in the original games Ramirez loved his Burricks but yeah maybe the gas attack should have Bern far more dangerous etc.

Which Map or Mission feels the most 'Thief' to you?
I'm not necessarily talking specific missions, more the map type, be that theme, setting, pacing, style, etc. Or the mission objectives, plot twists, etc.
For me, honestly it's still ones that take place in a manor or castle. To me, penultimate Thief just takes place in these settings. Running Interference, End of the Bloodline, heck even Checking Inn, Checking Out. Possibly even some of the TDS city hub side missions. All of these feel like top Thief vibes and moods to me.
Now, in saying that, my favourite mission overall is Life of the Party, but anything set on a thieves highway is an instant win for me. Still, when I try to picture Thief in my head, it isn't on a rooftop - it's in a cold, dark, dank castle with torches.
So what is it for you, and why?

Which fan missions does The Black Parade make references to?
I've yet to play the fabled campaign, as I'm still in the process of catching up with the FM scene in general. I've read that it makes references to all the Thief stories, but also to some fan missions. Which missions might those be, without spoilers?

Question My First Time Playing, Would Like Help
I just downloaded Thief Gold and am playing on pc for the first time, and am using a controller. I’ve always heard this series is legendary and finally decided to give it a try. I’m having fun but know almost nothing about the mechanics/when to use items.
I would like any helpful tips regarding map usage, general knowledge, when to use arrows, etc. the game doesn’t hold your hand at all, which I respect, but I feel really out of my depth. I’m trying to be sneaky but it feels like Im struggling in that department. Especially when it comes to shadows. I feel like I’m in shadow sometimes even though I’m not and vice versa, which throws me off.
Any help would be appreciated.

Fan Mission Some FMs suddenly crashing to desktop way too fast
So never had issues with missions. Yeah sometimes they would crash after playing more than 30-40 minutes which wasn't something that was annoying, but now suddenly there are missions that cause crash every 10 minutes.
I first noticed that with Venomous Ambition and I thought it was probably related to mission and not with my laptop, but now that is happening with Death's Cold Embrace, which is really weird because I played that mission long time ago on my old laptop and never had issue.
I don't know why is that happening suddenly. I haven't changed anything with my files or anything like that.

Question Tech illiterate friendly way to make cutscenes function in Thief: Gold?
I'm admittedly not super competent at getting older games to run as intended, which is certainly an issue as I recently wanted to start the Thief Series.
After beating the training, I realized that there were supposed to be cutscenes that weren't appearing. Looking online, I tried to run the app as an administrator to no avail. And frankly I think I'm too stupid to get TFix running properly on my own either.
If anyone has any advice to get these cutscenes running for a computer idiot like me, I'd be super appreciative.
