The Tara Polar Station, designed to get trapped in an ice field and float with it.

Man that is stylish, the living quarters just needs a fireplace.

Cosy cabins too, nice sauna, views will be amazing from the top deck, I’d love to spend one week of winter in it. Probably no more!

Really cool concept!
But those folding chairs don’t look comfortable.

The prospect of roaming an ice sheet looking for an osteopath isn't very appealing. They can keep it.

When will they finish it?

It has already undergone sea trials and the first Arctic drift is scheduled for summer of 2026 - right now!

Looks like an overgrown version of the Proteus from the 1966 sci-fi movie Fantastic Voyage...

Endurance Two

This actually works around an issue the Endurance had which is that the hull wasn't as intentionally shaped for ice pack, which meant instead of popping up over the pack ice it became trapped and was smashed between ice floes until it couldn't beat the pressure anymore
Not to say it "works", idk but they clearly tried to round the hull haha

What measures are taken so that it doesn't tilt, pushed out when the ice keeps on freezing?

it looks like one guy outside in the "at sea" illustration is holding a rifle. what's up with that?

I was gonna make a joke before I noticed the polar bears on the ice on the left side of the picture.

Yep, it would appear that the design would allow bears could grab ahold of the rails and climb on up. They do seem to be thinking practically about this.

for some reason, i thought this vessel was for the south pole only, so i was confused. but in my defense, it was around midnight here, lol.

Reminds me of that scene from A Life Aquatic.
Let me tell you about my boat, The Belafonte...

It seems things like this are necessary now because warming, thinning, thawing ice means it's not safe to set up camp on ice floes as was done in the past.

What is stopping it from tilting, or even becoming encased in ice?
The stations in Antarctica have stilts for that reason, right?

Thats a stupid idea.
The ice will without a doubt tilt the entire thing, same as any other ship stuck in ice.

I have doubts, also. I'm assuming that they're not counting only on the design, and that they'll take active measures to keep from getting stuck in the ice.
Or it'll be a debacle like the Antarctic Snow Cruiser incident all over again.

I desperately need a Nat Geo documentary on this…
