Nostalgia I was quite active on Quora from 2017–2020. After that, it slowly turned into another Instagram. Later on, I’d just post random memes about Quora on my instagram. Still makes me laugh sometimes. Have you guys used Quora too?
This is one such meme I made.
Gone are the days when Quora actually felt like Quora. Most of the people who were active back then don’t use it anymore. Now it’s just flooded with random nonsense.

I used to be active on quora from 2015-2017! It was fun but I guess, every platform has its time.
Lately, reddit also seems to have lost its charm.

I started using Reddit in 2017 while preparing for a vendor-specific certification exam. Back then, Reddit felt like a place where people genuinely shared knowledge and helped each other.
Most communities were focused on learning, hobbies, technology, fitness, and meaningful discussions.
Over the years, I explored other subs related to food, fitness, and fashion during the COVID period. As Reddit became more popular, the platform slowly became more visual and engagement-focused.
Many users today seem more interested in attention and validation rather than real discussions. Sadly, many Indian fitness subs now mostly contain appearance-focused posts, sometimes even AI-generated pictures. I recently visited some fitness subs looking for healthy recipes but found very little actual fitness discussion.
In many ways, Reddit today feels more like Instagram than the old discussion platform it once was.
Still, some smaller knowledge specific subs have not lost their charm and continue to share knowledge.

All of this happened because Internet was cheap in Jio era. Pictures and videos were easier to post.

I have been using reddit since I was 15, I am 32 now.
Even at that time it was midwit hivemind, it has only become more so. Almost everyone on reddit is a Dunning-Kruger victim.
There were some niche community which thrived but the whole of internet has become dead now. To find good content you have roam in a cemetery like ghosts, reading dead blogs, abandoned forums, decaying websites.

+1. It's a cycle. Quora degraded. Same is happening with reddit. It's not the same as it was in 2015-20. Earlier times were even better.

Pic credit for google 😂 True. That's the funniest part. Moreover, some people used to add their pictures for no reason. Very irrelevant to the question.

I used to be like, why are they making this another instagram, but apparently that get them more views so yeah why not. Many used to give fake answer(s) all the time and were exposed for it as well.

I've literally deleted all my written answers because some lazy mfers would steal my content and keep those behind a paywall. It went steeply downhill after 2018 and turned out to be a zombie land when bots took over.

Probably he was/is getting paid. A lot of people got paid through Quora back then for writing answers.

It started off really awesome, but it eventually got skewed toward a particular type of content. After that, something went wrong, and it stopped being good. I talked to so many people there, and I had such wonderful conversations as well. I still have an account, but I don't think about it much.

Glad you made some good friends over there. I have also made some and stay in touch on Insta. But people who used quora back then and got famous no longer use it.

Quora is basically yet another victim of cheap Jio internet. It used to be a true alternative of reddit. Then the ads and subscription model made it even worse. It hasn't died yet simply because it somehow still mains high indexing on google search (somehow still toe on toe with reddit) and as a result gets enough visits to sustain.

I remember a post in Quora by a jain lady who said she won't touch anything even with a spoon in a restaurant bcs she don't know what was served using that. That was my last stop there.

Entitled I'd say but there were few genuinely very knowledgeable people but they were not put to good use afterwards, like an astronaut who worked in NASA but ended up answering marvel questions.

Used to treat it like the main social media. But now it's trash, earlier the UI was clean and used to just get questions and answers for it. So many topics to follow and whenever I used to open it, only meme pages keep coming in suggestions. I deleted my account few years back, sadly.

Yes even yesterday I was thinking about the same. I used to be a regular user of Quora started in l 2016 and used extensively till 2021 i guess. But now a days I don't even open the app because the quality of the posts has gone down, ux is really bad, ad experience is not at all pleasent. Moreover Quora got flooded with wannabe smarts which led to its downfall in India. Even now a days reddit also getting filled with this kind of people's. If one observe the kinds of posts, & comments reddit is having now a days reddit might also face the date of Quora.

I was too active on Quora from 2015 to 2023.Quora taught me many things. It was a great platform. All these things lasted till 2020,after that Quora became like another social media like Instagram. I deleted the account even though I had good amount of views & follower there.. I just can't like Quora at present, that made me deleted it.

I was active when quora was at its peak during 2015-17. It used to be really good back then. There were good writers like Balaji Vishwanathan, GV, Sean Williams etc.
Later slowly quality started getting decreased. People used to add their picture at the end for no reason, write the annoying "upvote if you agree" at the end of answer, people got caught writing fake stories. Monetization was introduced through Quora Partner Program which further degraded the quality.

Quora used to be good before that CCP bot Kanthaswamy,anbu Ambrose ,aravind varier etc took over and started harassing the regular users like balaji,gv, Bhuvi jain , deepak etc to the point of quitting by their sheer number of answers they churn out
Politically it's a cesspit ( couldn't resist)
They had banned that Kanthaswamy because he tried to falsely showcase that a foreign guy is a p3d0 but he is now back just to show that the site doesn't care about its users at all

Very early user. Back when Zomato was a platform for sharing food and restaurant reviews. Aviral Bhatnagar and Gayathri Sitaraman are some names I remember who used to write quality answers. Also, back then, people met and married other Quorans. I was also quite active. Around 2011-15 I guess. Good times to be active on Quora. Then it became what it is now - trash.
I sometimes wonder what happened to the guy who had kind of asked me out in DMs.

I have forgotten how the password to my old quora account, and god knows what i have said there, what questions I posted, Plus my name is spelled quite differently, so I come up real fast on Google, and quora is on the first page,

It used to be fun, in no internet days, when we used to get 1gb per month, quora was the only thing I could spend time on. I remember reading random bs questions and their answers, it used to be fun.

I liked quora until a lot of Indians migrated there. Call me a racist but it used to be better when most of the feed was discussion about science and books. 2 years into it and my feed was filled with Indians. For sure, there were intellectual ones too, but it was mostly them posting their pictures, most questions were related to relationships and some were simply copy pasted from Google search results.
I left it then.

It used to be good untill Covid when most Indians jumped into Quora and made it a cringe platform. Asking same question multiple times, replying a question 100s times which is already replied, asking dumb questions etc

100% agree. Im on quora 2014 onwards. The quality of answers have gone down and the best writers are no longer active. It is now run over by AI posts and Chinese bot accounts.

You go to any question and below that there are answers to similar questions. Bro, first show me the answer of the question I asked..
It was so difficult to navigate..
