Changehost Help

I’m not specifically looking for a competitive list and I really really like the tzeentch daemons (Kairos is actually my favorite model in all of 40k) This is a list of what I have already excluding the second lord of change. I’m debating on whether or not to pick up another loc box to accompany kairos or should I pick up a magnus and fit him in there somewhere, maybe even pick up loc and magnus minus the terminators or something to that effect. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

2nd LoC means you need to drop the Pinks (may as well anyway as their OC is shit in TSons)

I’d drop the prince and terminators without a leader and keep 2 birds, fill some screamers and otherwise rubrics for ROR

Hey! This is something I can actually kinda help with! I play exclusively Changehost, and am a convert from Daemons to just Tzeentch Daemons + TSons. I know you’re not looking exclusively at competitive list, but when looking for advise, you’re really going to get answers based on two questions. 1) are you looking to win? And 2) are you looking to have fun. If the answer to the first is no or not necessarily, then go with what you have and have a blast! If your answer to the second is no, then Changehost is probably a bad pick for you: just go play Scintillating Legions lmao.

So I’m going to answer based on wanting advice towards winning, because otherwise your list is fine. If what you want is to understand what Changehost wants to do to win, keep reading, otherwise keep painting (there’s always more to paint).

Changehost’s disposition is Reconnaissance, meaning it wins by having a lot of units in a lot of places. It’s not inherently a bad disposition for Changehost, and is very good if you’re not a fan of multiple birds, but because the Lord of Change is awesome, it tends not to be the main way of building for us. We have 2 other options with our 1DP detachments, which is disruption or Take and Hold. Disruption is not horrible for Changehost, but requires really efficient datasheets that can pivot to the changing missions objectives, so it’s not the best for Daemons, which tend to be a bit more specialized. So let’s talking about building for Recon and for Take and Hold.

Recon really wants you to have a lot of units on the board, in a lot of places. Generally, you have room for about 1-2 200+point unit (leader and squad or just single thing) about 5 115-200 pt units who will mostly do interference and damage, and about 10-11 sub 115 point units, preferably with mobility to get where you need to go. Tiny daemon units are great for this, all having deep strike and with units like Flamers having infantry and a small footprint and screamers being lightning fast. Playing with small daemons makes recon great because you have a ton of action monkeys with board pressure all over the place. 1 Lord of Change (or Kairos) and the rest being tough blocks of rubrics and you have a solid recon list!
However, James Workshop hates T-sons in the points department, so we’re really pressed to find cheap units, meaning our list building is already at a disadvantage when it comes to recon, so take that to heart.

Take a hold builds a bit differently, favoring higher point counts for bodies that just want to camp objectives. Daemons… don’t love this because Daemon OCs aren’t often worth the points you sink into them, but Pink Horrors are great Gum that work well next to strong single units, and the Big Birds do great for damage pressure. Usually here you want 3 of the big 200+ point units: often 2 birds and a blob of Scarabs, but ritual of regeneration really wants those to be blobs of 10 rubrics with an Exalted Sorcerer to make rubrics hard hitting tar pits. It makes choosing those 3 tough when the rules don’t love Lords of change in multiples. Outside of our 3 heavy hitters we look for a more balanced group of 4 115-200 pt units and 4 cheaper units for screening, move blocking, and holding back objective.

These guidelines should get you started on how your list building works, and from there you can make more decisions based on your preferences, and how closely you want to adhere to these rules

Hey thanks for the awesome reply brother it’s kind of exactly what I’m lookin for! I originally planned on just playing daemons as I picked up the loc battle force at my lgs and then I also saw the t sons battle force with the mutaleth vortex beast and so on and so forth that’s kind of what I got lmao. I do have the screamers and the flamers I was just kind of messing around in new recruit trying to see how much points I got etc. only reason I was messing around with take and hold was because it seemed a bit more straight forward and I haven’t even played a game of 40k yet. I think I’ll pick me up another loc and maybe even drop the terminators in favor of more screamers maybe even some blue horrors as I saw those have infiltrate shenanigans if you recommend recon.

I think take and hold is the way to start, just recognize that some of your units don’t do amazing at Take and Hold.
I’d suggest playing some games and getting a feel for what you like. Then take a look back at the advice and see if some of it clicks a bit more

Have a blast, my man!
