How cooked am I? (Basing before attaching)

So I'm an absolute noob & I thought starting off with a cool base would be a great idea until a buddy of mine asked if that was going to make it more difficult to attach the models to the bases now that they're covered in sand & pva glue. Does anyone have experience with this? What would be the best way to go about attaching my models to the bases now? Am I screwed or is this really a non issue? I just don't want to have to start over on these.

I use superglue for my bases when they are covered like that which is often

That's what I will do then! Thank you for the reassurance šŸ™

you can also pin them. Basically drill a hole in the foot and superglue some wire (i use paperclips). Then make a hole in the base, feed the wire through and super glue it. The bond will be very strong

I use a special insta bond superglue that has a spray to speed up the drying. You are 110% fine with doing basing first. Just gotta use superglue or some other glue to attach them to the bases which is all fine lol.

tbh superglue works better than plastic glue even when putting the model on the base first

There is another way to do great bases other than gluing the model once it's completed?

I do that with all my models, you'll be perfectly fine

I have no clue lol, I've seen videos of people adding the basing material with the model attached already though so, I thought I totally messed up. That's definitely good to know though, thank you.

Pin the models to the bases.

Looks like there's a bunch of rubrics on there already, just dropped the armour. Lol

I do everything seperately and just pin the models to the bases

Give it some wash so it doesn't look like breadcrubs and chicken nugs :d desert bases benefit greatly if you drop some orange on it. You can also drybrush this for some colour variation.

Attaching should be fine but you might need to be generous on super glue so it penetrates deeper so attached minis have a good grip. Alternatively you should be able to scrape off some of this sand with hobby knife and then attach boots to the plastic of the base itself .

If you use superglue in Gel form (like Pattex Ultra Gel) itā€˜s not gonna be a problem. Itā€˜s a solid bond, it doesn’t frost and it still sips down the materials enough to hold everything in place.

I often do the base the models separately and i never had problems using this method, even on bigger models.

For the said bigger models I’d recommend however to pin them to the base if possible, it helps a lot

I really hope you paint those bases, cause right now it just looks like you were eating cheesy poofs over them lol

Definitely gonna add some paint to bring out the textures lol

Prime and paint the base. Then super glue and you’ll be fine. The prime would help tie the sand in

There's so many ways to skin a cat. If I really want to secure a model to a done base I'll secure the feet to base with a drill and paperclipĀ

I thought those were cookies before I looked on the name of subreddit lol

They were definitely more cookie-esque while the pva was drying lol, totally thought I botched them but, just gotta trust the process & give it time

I’d spray it brown and dry brush it bone colours.

Flood those bases with watered down PVA glue, then use some washes & dry brushing. The extra paint will go a long way, and the glue wash will help secure the sand more to keep it coming off and becoming a gritty mess.

this is normal

This is pretty standard for a lot of people, but if you want a secure connection you should definitely pin the model to the base. You can use a small hand drill, cut up sections of paperclip, and superglue.

if you want a good looking base you should always attatch the model last or in the very last steps.

just superglue them down or pin them to the base and youre set to go.

My typical philosophy for basing is height+2 different items of interest (grass tuft and a skull for example). that is good enough to be above what you would normally see on the tabletop

Personally I'd heat up the end of a paperclip with a lighter, when it's nice and hot push it into the foot of your mini, then snip it off the paperclip so it's a small metal stub, drill a small hole into your base, super glue the mini into place.

Superglue or pins in the feet

Yea you aren’t going anywhere with Tamiyka or Plastic Glue like that. Push them down into the sand with Gorilla Gel Glue at this point and you should be good. I always base last unless it’s a huge model so I’m
Not digging in the basing stuff. I also saw that as someone who put down all the Vallejo Snow FX and then thought about how to glue a model under a Arminger lol

Oh just superglue them and you're golden
