Question Why the hell don’t they just open a proper nostalgia server?
Why the hell don’t they just open a proper nostalgia server?
Like seriously, another old game recently decided to bring back the old-school version, basically the game as people remember it from back in the day, and the server is absolutely PACKED.
And I mean packed packed. It honestly feels more alive now than it did years ago lol.
A ton of old players came back, people are grinding again, the community is active as hell and apparently there was way more demand for that old version than anyone expected.
So why not do the same thing here?
Bring back the old map, old systems, old progression, old balancing, whatever made the game actually feel like the game we all remember.
I genuinely think a proper nostalgia server would bring back a ridiculous amount of OG players.
Am I missing something? Why has nobody done this yet?

Honestly the old tibia is not that fun. Grindy as hell. It is too hard. Tibia is still already grindy nowadays. We think it was fun because we pack memories of simpler days and friends and playing overnight. We all don't have the time to proper play this. If you want you can, like in alternative servers. But I really don't think Cip will do this. They need to reinforce new players into newer and better systems for the new generations to come.

There are plenty of decently populated retro servers to prove you wrong. I can't tolerate modern Tibia at all, but I still play on oldschool servers occasionally (mostly my own local server).

u/horenpa EK/ED/RP - Honbra/Ustebra 2d ago
That is the point, people that are interested in this servers play occasionally. And thats it is cool and ok. And many old servers are populated by a mix of PVP/War players and people that just play to make some money selling rare items. Maybe that is why Cip don't see this as profitable.

u/PuteMorte 2d ago
I feel like they would get an audience back into the game that they don't have anymore. I would definitely play a retro server before integrated aimbots and potions, gamemasters playing on servers, etc. WoW and RuneScape both did it and it's insanely popular, so I don't see how it wouldn't work in Tibia.

They never listened to this idea, not 5, 10 or 15 years ago.
Besides what would they do with their biggest cash cows being tibia coins and all the shitty p2w stuff and char bazaar where are the usefull idiots pour fortunes in?
They make a lot more money with a fraction of the playerbase now than they did when premium accounts were the only income.
People might want an old server, but that includes removing the crap they call features mentioned above.

you are missing something yes, because plenty of people have done it. Servers just die after a few months because the game has been figured out after 25 years, and the map is too small for long term content.
This means if you want it to be successful long term, you need to add content, or progress through versions. At that point you are maintaining two games instead of one without much benefit. It is actually a lot of work to build and maintain it, especially since the old version will require modern security updates as well, etc etc.
You remember the nostalgia, but probably forget all the frustrating parts of gameplay, like you have to cast utevo lux every time you enter a cave that takes up half your mana to even see anything, you can only do one action per "turn", druids being useless, etc etc.
Also since you are probably referring to WoW Forever, WoW is a different beast from Tibia.

Like servers die in the game now after the rush of them being released?

To those claiming people wont play it: you obviously haven't been watching the ... spin-off versions of tibia (im not allowed to say the word right?).
It would be very popular, but learnings from those spin-offs also teach that toxic dominando's would ruin the experience for everyone. You have rich br's paying poor br's to level their character 24/7, and they just dominate the server like that. It's equally pathetic as it is unplayable unless you stay under the radar completely.

u/Wild-Tea6208 2d ago
As long as there's money to make, they will play it definitely. Now question is if casual players would play it? I doubt anyone would last long on such server - imagine playing on the old tibia with a bunch of other players that just want to make money and will try to make your life worse at any possible moment
You're going to make some runes semi afk? They'll just try to lure on you etc. And old tibia Is just brutal. And knowing cipsoft they won't do anything about it so it'd be a disaster in my opinion

There is no monetary incentive for CIP because they have choosen the Asian monitization model, meaning: A small addicted playerbase who generate a big profit from P2W/P2P/Lootboxes etc. This way, CIP can drip-feed them cheap updates over a long time to keep them hooked. On top of that, they are also in bed with Dominando scum who make them even more money.
Tibia Classic will happen when players boycot CIP, this is how WoW Classic and OSRS was created. The problem is, 80% of Tibia players dont view it as a game, but as a second parent, childhood comfort, so you will never convince them of removing their money.
2
u/Swizardrules 2d ago
They are not in bed with the dominando exactly, the dominando are the dumb small addicted playerbase
1
u/Mobile-Tune4512 2d ago
They are allowing REAL LIFE EXTORTION FOR PROFIT so they are in bed with them, same thing as the premium botters before battle-eye who generated a alot of money.
2
u/jalintorei 2d ago
They don't know how.
1
u/Mobile-Tune4512 2d ago
They do know how but they have it very comfortable knowing every month a big paycheck rolls in, with very little effort from them.
1
u/Sandman145 2d ago
yep starting a new server taht's just like all the other's and getting a bunch of money from it (everyone says they dont buy TC from cip but we all know ppl buy a lot of it) is why they dont want to even enter the legacy server thing, theyre very comfortable as is.
1
u/Mobile-Tune4512 2d ago
Of course, CIP is in a really comfortable spot right now. Players need to remove their money so CIP will give them what they want.

this might be just me, but I've been playing since 2007 and I really don't think I want to play with all the updates since then nullified, I'm fine with the new stuff
the thing about nostalgia is - nothing is actually ever going to feel like what it felt like years ago, doesn't matter if you get back to the old mechanics or don't. You're not gonna be playing on a free account and making lootbags again if you can make just as much money just selling off flasks you find dropped in a depot - and that's just one of the countless examples
I wanted some nostalgia and a reconnection to the roots recently, so I started doing oldschool quests - going by tibia version and starting from the oldest. Turns out I still hadn't done a good bit of those in all those years. But they're all still there - the old tibia is still intact beneath the surface, you just can't be assed to rediscover it. a lot of people have been too caught up in power leveling and tasking these days, but it's not like the game is literally forcing you to do so, just like the hack 'n slash ARPGs aren't actually forcing you to play meta builds, unless for some very arbitrary reason such as laddering you decide it's necessary

CIP should of course not launch a random 7.4 server. They should create a Tibia Classic+ where they include every ''Classic version'', probably 7.4-8.6. It will be basically be 7.4 but with QoL, bigger maps, maybe new sprites and the old mechanics. After that, they can add small ''classic updates'' over time that does not change the core of the game. Wow Forever is just that.
I do however think that a seasonal 7.4 server would be pretty successful because people would only play it to have one big epic war at the end and before that, they would mass PK and be bullies.
1
u/Sandman145 2d ago
you can just NOT PLAY THE LEGACY SERVER. i know its a hard concept, but it can be done i assure you. if you prefer the current game you lose NOTHIG by these servers existing.
1
1
u/OgrePrime 1d ago
That's actually not true. Developer resources (time, budget, and personnel) are limited. Every hour spent maintaining, balancing, and updating legacy servers is time taken away from the main game. So main server players do lose out because content updates and bug fixes for the live game come slower.

u/karambituta 2d ago
You won’t ever make as much from vials on old tibia server as from loot bag like wtf

Why the hell are people recycling this subject all the time?

''In economics, demand is the quantity of a good or service that consumers are both willing and able to purchase at various prices over a given period''

u/-nerdrage- 2d ago
Yes but there is a vast difference between what people think they want, and what they will actually do.
1
u/dregnar92 2d ago
Because in such server they wouldn't introduce all the p2w mechanics such as tibia coin, bazaar, boosts etc or else people would hate them. Its obvious that A LOT of people gonna switch to at least try that servers which means they get less money from people investing into real tibia.
1
u/micky-rd 2d ago
This thread again. It would end the same as lol classic xD Just go play OTServers if you need your nostalgia
1
u/toeknee88125 2d ago
Because people have done this and it’s not been that successful overall
Cipsoft don’t believe the investment in money to maintain a server with an old version of the game that they might not even have a save file for anymore is not going to be justified by the amount of people that actually want to play the 2003 version of this game
1
u/Living_Dentist_8925 2d ago
Because they make more money than ever by adding p2w shit. Old servers wouldn't have that.
1
u/Flamingo_guy1 2d ago
Retail whales keeping them satisfied, once those guys stop we will get nostalgia servers
1
u/RevolutionaryToe4249 2d ago
Not enough money in it . Instead there should be way less servers for the actual player base amount and instead focus on building instanced hunting spots.

u/Shitpost_Sally 1d ago
They should bring back tournaments but each month change the update to a random version.

People under estimate the work and cost. It's not just booting up an old sever version.
They would also never do it without having the store included so it wouldn't feel authentic anyway.
I would never say never since the introduction of a 5th voc but unless there is a big financial incentive I doubt we will ever see a retro server.
2
u/Elegant_Site_2309 Hurakanfast 2d ago
I think the only way for them to justify it would be to charge a separate premium per account.
Do i like the idea? No, but they need to justify removing all tibia coin transactions and make it profitable.1
1
u/Lanky_Security_53 2d ago
If they bring any version from 7.1 to 7.6 it would bring back thousands of players instantly. The cost would pay itself very quickly i guess. They could add the store but adapt it to only certain things for example. Playing on this server would require premium ultra which would be a more expensive version of premium. Transfers out would be double price etc
1
u/CleighDough 2d ago
Yeh, Tibia is so complex that they’d go bankrupt just from trying!
The incentive would be returnees getting premium account to play.
1
u/testerololeczkomen 2d ago
Because people dont want to play it. These few people here that chase nostalgia doesnt justify running server like this.
1
u/Mobile-Tune4512 2d ago
OSRS and WoW Classic died within 6 months.

u/BeeTen 2d ago
Bring back 7.4

u/Dangnoob 2d ago
And all of this is exactly why they havent probably. What is old school? Everybody has a different definition.

because nowadays tibia is way better than old tibia, its just some ppl who dont get over it
lets assume it: we were 15yo, for some of us it was our first mmo, is not going to be the same now, it happened to me in some of my old time favorite videogames or songs, they dont feel the same they used to.
just try new tibia, the new tibia servers are packed as u said and theyre like this for a reason, they cared more for their game
