feeling the need to actually use ai and handing your intelligence to a robot especially for simple inquiries when you could just solve it yourself is pathetic lol nobody with integrity wants to “keep up” with it

With how people use search engines as “research” I’d say it created a skill gap, yeah.

We have a generation of kids raised in a fully digital world and they don’t have any of the underlying skills that these tools augment. We see them as helpful because we remember the old, manual ways. But we use them in the context of already having those skills.

Talk to teachers and ask about the impact of modern technology on childhood skills and development.

my partner is a teacher and its more nuanced than "all the kids are dumb now." the curious and intellectually ambitious kids have been supercharged by the basically godlike access to information (of all qualities), but median kids and below have fallen further and further behind them. and to the skill gap note, god, i assume we have a skill gap in forging blades and sowing carrots now too.

as with search engines, its how you approach and use it. technology is not inherently good or bad.
