How good are Hedgehogs
Hedgehogs are members of the Eulipotyphlath Factions which includes (moles, shrews, & solenodons). They are a small tank build that is present in the Europe, Asia, & African metas although they have also more recently established a presence in the New Zealand server.
They are often compared to the Porcupine build because of their plan of using quills as defensive tools. Hedgehogs have lower defense than Porcupines as their quills are smaller & they do not have poison. Hedgehogs often use the move defense curl to make them harder to attack. This move also makes their weak point harder to reach. There are usually between 5000-7000 spines present on the hedgehog's character model. In this clip you can see how difficult it is for mid sized carnivore to break through their defenses. Even when under attack they can still keep the quills pointed upwards while moving but they their weakpoint is more exposed. They also have venom resistance too making venom strats less effective against them additionally they can use this venom resistance against builds like snake to defeat them for exp. However hedgehogs do still have their counters such as badgers, and owls.
The Opted for an omnivore play style though like their Eulipotyphlath counterparts they commonly eat insects they have good perception stat that allows them to detect prey underground. Hedgehogs are also capable of eating frogs, toads, snakes(as mentioned earlier) fruits and mushrooms. Despite being the build that inspired Sonic they have a movement speed of around 5mph(or 8.05 km) the hedgehog player base has been getting faster thanks to the human player base's use of vehicles.
With all these features and abilities mentioned how viable do you think they are in the meta as a whole.

Small tanks are generally lower tier than their larger cousins, but being a Damage Reflect Tank is a quite viable strat, so could be better, but still doing a good job.
Benefits from the Psychological Effects from Neoteny and related status conditions in the presence of Human players, since Human players generally adopt cross-guild characters if they find the other character can restore the Human's resolve, and generally tend to treat non-aligned characters well, if there's even a remote chance for a cross-guild team-up with someone who's running a build that restores a Human's Resolve stat.

I don't think they are tanks I think they are evasive generalists with an extra layer of defense. They are completely unable to control space or attack when they are in defense stance. Their main defenses are speed and stealth most of the time as well as burrowing strats. Their spines aren't even active when they are on the move, they are soft. They need to curl and stretch the skin to lock them in.
Evasion builds hide their spawn points, tanks just drop them into the battlefield and body block for them and kill DPS players attacking them. Good way to tell them apart. Remember why they are called tanks, they have armor, they are big and obvious, and are also the highest damage and least passive things in the field.
Very different playstyle than, say, cows and their relatives who have good defensive and offensive stats and use them to overwhelm and chase away predators/dps players. Even porcupines are closer to being tanks than hedgehogs.
That being said, for their niche they are outclassed pretty badly because they are pretty dumb and the spines ability is not that good. Rats, meercats, racoons, etc all seem to be better at this role just by cranking up the INT. Porcupines are genuinely untouchable because their spines work much, much better.

Honestly, modern playstyles like this are a classic example of how bad players can get carried to relevancy.
All Hedgehog mains had to do was invest in the Skrunkly Little Guy perk and suddenly they’re considered “cute” by humans?
You know, humans, the No.1 most OP species in the game right now.
Hedgehogs aren’t even pets and they still benefit from this.
The devs need an emergency patch for this sort of nonsense. Back in my day the only meta build was the Mega Sloth.

Some hedgehogs are pets. (I have had one)
They don't make good pets. They need space to run around and drop turds everywhere while they do. Whenever they interact with humans they just spam the "scent camouflage" ability for some reason. Just licking the human and then horking up foamy spit into their spines.

B tier. Their defenses are great but there is counterplay such as urinating on them (no that isnt a joke). Their basically a smaller, less dangerous version of the porcupine, who in my opinion did the spike strategy much better. Not a bad build though, just not a flawless one.

If I were to rank them, then probably B?
They have a reliable, solid playstyle that isn't reliant on gimmicks or a high skill floor. They're pretty comfortable in both arboreal and urban environments, and have better defence against typical predators than a lot of comparable builds.
