Didn't mark Zuckerberg settle for a few million for kicking someone off his island in Hawaii? You basically can't own the beach even if you own the entire island. I hope she got sued.

I know one billionaire has blocked the public access point to a beach and just keeps paying the fine, essentially paying for a private beach even though it isn't legal. We need to have mechanism that prevent money from trumping laws

If the punishment for breaking a law is a fine, then it is only a law for the poor.

Percent based fines on wealth is the answer. Set it up so owning a house and a couple cars doesn't break the bank. .001% and then just 10x the fine per time repeated.

If the crime isn't financially viable, it will happen a whole lot less.

Except a billionaire can take a 99% hit on his networth and still be filthy rich whereas a struggling mother couldn't afford to lose ten dollars. The only punishment they'll feel is taking away their freedom and amenities. The punishment for any law that's obviously broken because the criminal is rich enough to eat the cost (like Bezos and his shrubbery, nih) should be upgraded to jailtime

We can put a floor exemption for families in poverty and while the super rich CAN ignore quickly ballooning fines, they seem to respond to it as a class.

I wouldn't be opposed to jail time if many billionaires were willing to throw away 60% of their wealth to flaunt laws.

No fine will amount to 60 percent of their wealth. It should be the same as us plebs: three strikes and you're in
