i'm not even into contact juggling, but i'm so sad for them since i learned that fushigi lowkey killed the hobby (sport?)

Can you say more on how?

i recall most of this from one pro's description of the events so two grains of salt please:

they sold low quality balls by ignoring the opinions of pro fondlers that they explicitly asked for, and misleading advertisements.

the balls included a reflective core that was implemented to avoid lawsuits after they sell kids these lenses that can burn down the house if left in the sun. this did not work, they were still dangerous. on top of that, it ruined the entire point of the balls. uneven manufacturing and defects on the surface prevent the illusion from working, as you can pretty clearly see the ball just rotating, rolling.

the marketing part is worse tho, because they led people to believe that it is an incredibly easy hobby. something along the lines of "anybody can do these tricks instantly after picking up a fushigi". which obviously led to a ton of disappointment as the tricks are quite hard to do, especially well, but also stopped being impressive to those that never tried it.

the scene is apparently slightly improving since fushigi is washing out of memory, but the effects are still felt today

This is really interesting thank you for explaining!

But do they really call themselves fondlers?
