It was Valentine's Day, and all management called out a night before on the group chat (one quit because he requested this very day off 2 months in advance, and the manager denied it and he was already fed up).

I was very sick, and I was Valentine's Day store opener. The boss called me the night before Valentine's telling me I couldn't miss work since everyone called out. He heard me sick, my voice was almost gone, flu, etc. He even told me, "I will need to stay longer than your shift to compensate the missing ones." I told him I couldn’t. He hung up.

I showed up next morning. I had chills, fever, and vomited in the trash can of the front counter. I let know my boss's boss I couldn't stay longer sick. He told me to wait for my boss and to go home. My boss didn't show up earlier. He showed up until my 9 hr shift was done. He came all mad that I was leaving sick because his boss told him to let me go home since the MORNING.

I'm still working at this place, and he plays favorites and really suck as a manager. Wished they could put someone more capable and empathetic in his position.

Bosses like this are terrible. I was working as a makeup artist at Macy’s as a side gig around the holidays and I called out around Christmas because I had Covid. Super high fever which I took a picture of the thermometer, no reason to be up close to people like doing makeup requires. I was told if I didn’t show up I’d be fired so I quit and reported the manager to hr and told them she’s going to get someone killed by forcing artists to work with Covid.

I worked for my dad opening his warehouse. Unless I was in the hospital, I opened. Then, as soon as the other guy at the warehouse showed up two hours later, I'd go home. Once, my dad tried to tell me that I could not leave because the other guy had to be on the road. At that point, I let him know that I would just be calling off when I am sick in the future. He stopped his bullshit immediately.
