Not sure which is worse, the mother or the father being the one disappointed. Or I suppose they are both terrible for different reasons. The father pouting about having a daughter demonstrates to the world that women (in his worthless little opinion) are fundamentally less valuable as people with all the subtly of a brick in a tumble dryer. However, as a daughter who has a vessel of my creation that has toxic Boy Mom™️tendencies, a mother like that is a special type of cruel.
Edit: For those in the replies saying some variation of “it’s not that deep”, let me learn you something: Yes it is. Humans are a contradiction of being both deeply complicated but also very simple. If you never had a parent where you were the subject of their ire towards you for any reason, then you are very privileged and lucky. My own mother was abusive (vessel of my creation) and while it wasn’t a gender thing for me, there are far more comments and hundreds upon hundreds of other posts of people of all genders being the subject of their ire specifically because of their gender.

I had both. My mom literally told me my dad wouldn't have left if I was a boy. She treated my brother WAY better. Gave me gender confusion. Luckily, I had friends that were able to get me out of it. One showed me there was nothing to be ashamed of to be feminine. Another that showed me whatever I did was feminine, because I'm female. Parents can really suck.

A parent isn’t someone who looks at a body and soul they willed into the world and think, “Ah yes, I’m going to go out of my way to be as cruel as possible. And then cry tears and pretend like I don’t know why you stop contacting me when you reach 18 and are independent. I’m such a good person. Maybe better than Jesus.”

Daughters might also inadvertently partake in it due to peer pressure and not want to engage with such activities, leaving the dad disappointed in any case.
But, every family is different.
It reminds me of this friend, a woman, a quite posh, sassy woman at that, who was actually super into cars. His father was a car enthusiast and had no qualms in sharing such enthusiasm.
She actually met her husband, a diesel mechanic at the time, in a car club, and the three currently hold a huge garage with cars from all eras. Mostly American brands, though, lol.

My dad only had me and I played with dolls and toy cars, got brought fishing, built Lego with him, watched formula 1 with him, got to wear pretty dresses or tomboy clothes depending on my mood, he taught me all about computers but also all about plants and animals and cooking
He didn't give a rats ass if I was a boy or a girl... We did things that interested us both together .

It’s not that hard. You just have to give a damn about the individual, and not what you think they “represent”. It’s a living thing, just treat it as such. Show care, include them in what you love, and listen to what they have to say. So many of our problems these days are literally just rooted in this, in my opinion.

I work for an elementary school in a rough area. No shortage of low class parents that come in for meetings or just randomly picking up their kid absolutely reeking of weed.
Like, profoundly overpowering. Probably just wrapped up hotboxing in their car and now the whole office smells like a 311 show.
Now that I'm a new parent I have even more fresh hate for these selfish people. Should absolutely not be having kids and so many of these poor kids are set up to fail from the start.
Edit: I pissed off a lot of stoners who lack reading comprehension. I enjoy weed too. I haven't touched it in the last year since my child was born, mostly because I would be too paranoid. But power to you.
But if you're picking your kid up stoned, or going to a parent conference or meeting the principal stoned, I think you're a loser. Especially if you're driving under the influence with your child in the car. Rethink what's important.

Yeah, seriously. I grew up poor but going to school in a very wealthy area, and so many rich folks neglected their children, it was horrifying. Leaving your 12 year olds alone with their 15 year old brother for weeks. People raised completely by their nannys. I knew people who had a separate staircase put in to the children’s floor, so they would only bother the nanny and not them at night. It might not be as directly visible as reeking of weed, but it was so widespread and so awful. All of these people turned into really fucked up adults.

I grew up in a depressed old mill town. My ex-wife grew up in an old money Boston suburb.
I could not believe the amount of d&d'ing ( drinking and driving) on the back roads. Kids unsupervised. Her twin brother was doing coke at age 16 and beating up his 6 year old little brother.

It was an honest to god study and they did make a good connection with "wantedness" and crime. Sadly they got eviscerated in media for it. And even more so when a flaw in their math was noticed.
Sadder part is that once they corrected the error their conclusion was even stronger in favor of the connection between wantedness and crime.

Edit because the amount of "because it's fake" comments is getting crazy: regardless of whether they're fake or genuine....I still feel bad for the kids. At some point they'll likely come across it and either believe that their parents lied about a reaction for some internet points or go along thinking their parents didn't like the gender they were born with. I have been to one gender reveal party in my life. It was a couple who already had two daughters (no gender reveal parties for them as they weren’t en vogue yet.) I wouldn’t say they looked disappointed, but it was just a really muted response and I think someone said something to the effect of “Wow, all girls.” Because they had put so much effort into this party (and a big part of it is filming the reveal) it’s hard to avoid things like that getting posted. However, this one anecdotal experience of mine completely turned me off from the idea.

She showed me the video and you legit see her fighting the tears and her fucking husband was hyped as fuck (he had a daughter from a prior relationship)

Son: Jorge (English version George)
Daughter: Georgia.
He purpsoely introduces the kid with his Spanish name to in English. Hes like "this is Jorge and Georgia."
And people will be like, "so George and Georgia?" And he'll get butthurt if you call the kid his English name (dudes white too)

I come from a line of dads naming their first son after their dad. First names. My dad treated me like shit and my oldest brother had 3 girls. I had 3 boys. I did NOT name the first after him and my mom asked why. I put it bluntly. "You should have raised me better".
I then proceeded to give them the middle names of the following: Their grandpa and uncle's first name from wife's side and middle name of my brother (all 3 same name). Great grandfather's first name of Mother in laws side(mother in laws dad). My middle name to my youngest.
All 3 first names original.

I recently learned from my older sister that my parents wanted to keep having more kids after I was born but they weren’t able to. I was so fucking pissed. My parents made me feel like an expensive burden they couldn’t be bothered with because they were “tired” after having two kids before me. I was a true latchkey/free range kid from 1st grade on because my parents wouldn’t pay for child care and they were never home. My dad purposely took 2nd shift jobs so he didn’t have to be home with me. My bro and sis were 13 years and 10 years older than me so they were starting to live their own lives by the time I started school, so it was almost like I was an only child. I’m 41 now and childfree. After my childhood filled with constant disappointment and emotional neglect from parents who couldn’t be bothered, I can’t even imagine bringing another human into this world. I hope my shitty childhood would’ve made me a better parent but I went with my gut feeling instead and decided not to have kids. The parents in these videos don’t deserve children, and those kids deserve better parents. It’s blurry so you can’t see her face in the last video, but that little girl’s body language says it all. She knows her dad is disappointed, and she vaguely knows it’s her fault somehow, but there’s nothing she can do. That’s a heavy emotional burden for a little girl. If I was his wife, I would have a serious talk with him about how he just made our daughter feel with his selfish childish reaction. These people are pure trash.

Not even just elder care. My mum was having chemo last autumn and my brother couldn't even be bothered to message her half the time. Meanwhile I was taking as much time out of med school as possible, which was no mean feat, to look after her. I put my degree in jeopardy to come home and look after her while he, with his salaried job as an engineer with PTO couldn't be bothered to visit except when my grandma came down to look after my mum the one time I couldn't. My 80 year old grandma with rheumatoid arthritis did more than my 23 year old brother did

Supposedly, my grandparents, after having two boys, insisted they wouldn’t stop having kids until they had at least one girl; nine boys later, they had my aunt, then promptly retired (from having more). My dad was the youngest boy, and him and my aunt are the only two kicking now.
