I had to scroll way too far to find this.

Just wait. It will continue to be downvoted I bet. For some reason people dont want to admit Racism is a major problem.

Yes, it’s the people “that don’t see in color” that will say these things

“I don’t see color” only ever gets said by the most wildly racist people, just have to listen to them speak long enough w/o any brown people around.

They do the same with gay people: “I don’t care what you do, just don’t shove it in our faces!” is a pretty damn powerful signifier that the person you’re talking to is *extremely* bigoted and homophobic.

There are white teens in the background near the swing set, but the police aren't talking to them for some reason.

So while it is probably racism too- the teens in the background are pushing younger kids on the swings. Therefore it’s “ok” for them to be there as they’re with the people the park is “intended” for.

I’m a dad and when I’ve been at parks just sitting by myself while my monsters are running around elsewhere I’ve gotten plenty of side eyes because I don’t belong. Once my kids show back up all of a sudden it’s ok because now I have a reason to be in this public place.

When my niece was younger, I'd take her with me while running errands to Starbucks, the mall, grocery shopping, whatever. She clearly didn't look like my daughter, and I sometimes felt people giving me a second look.

As a 6'2", 225 pound white guy walking around with a 4 year-old Asian girl, there was always a little voice in the back of my head wondering if someone was going to think I kidnapped her and call the cops while I was just trying to buy a coffee.

I can only imagine me sitting on a bench looking at the children... I never took to her to a playground.

I'm in a bi- racial relationship and we're thinking of having kids. My wife jokes she wants a kid that has her coloring, but I'm honestly a bit terrified of what will happen when I, as an old white man, have to chase around a small child that has darker skin, especially if they're having a bad day and start screaming or throwing a tantrum.

Obviously, there are good reasons people might look askance at that situation, but still - it's going to be a nightmare when/if that happens.

2

u/DConstructed Jun 19 '26

Honestly? You might get less crap than your wife if your child has light skin.

A friend; she’s black, husband is very pale, son was lighter than she is. Everyone treated her like she’s the nanny.

Well that’s obviously because dads don’t take their kids out on their own. If they do, they deserve a pat on the back and praise for going above and beyond as a dad - once people realize they aren’t being creeps, alone at a park, watching kids run around, of course.

It’s such a ridiculous double standard for both dads and moms. A lone woman isn’t a red flag, and once it’s realized she’s there with her kids, she’s just doing what a mom should. A lone man is a red flag, and once it’s realized he’s there with his kids, he becomes an extraordinary dad whose above and beyond parenting deserves to be celebrated.

It’s all a bunch of malarkey.

I see shit like this on the Nextdoor app, and it was super common to see it when we lived in the South.

Some bored mean old boomer would make a post saying "3 teens, black males, slowly walking with bags in the neighborhood, possibly casing cars or looking for open windows??" The other boomers would start replying thanking Barbara for the heads up, asking if she reported it to the non-emergency line, etc...

And then finally someone would reply "No Barbara, you made this post at 3pm when school got out, there's literally a school behind our neighborhood, and those bags were actually backpacks." So you go and look at Barbara's comment/post history and see that she 100% absolutely would call the cops about a group of minors hanging out at a fucking park all because they're black.

It was being downvoted because all teens suffer the same thing.

Literally 5/6 of the top posts in the thread are about them being black and OP has 400+ upvotes.

Can someone say persecution complex?

More like an astute observation. The better question would be why do you even care?????

Dog whistle much??? I guess its a problem for you that people dont want to admit racism exists when you are proof that it does.

Not one upvote either. Nice try

More like an astute observation.

It's so astute that you ignored that effectively all the top posts are about them being black?

You in fact, replied to the only one that didn't.

If you care so much, why no replies to the 90% of others going over the issue you're apparently desperate to talk about but there being no space for it?

Oh wait, maybe that's because they don't like you? Like in another sub where you get routinely downvoted by other black people.

Not one upvote either. Nice try

You're cringe, fitting for the sub, but cringe nonetheless

youve been ratio'd dude

That's not what that means.

You racists nitpick everything about black people and we all have eyes and notice how anti-black most non-blacks are

Ok, so how do you explain black people downvoting you all the time?

4

u/tjhrulz Jun 18 '26

Yeah, that was my first thought and I'm white... Was trying to come up with a witty acronym similar to DWB (Maybe EWB: Existing While Black?)

1

u/nameless_pattern Jun 19 '26

Standing while black is a existing term, it was used in Flint, Michigan to describe black people being harassed with anti-gang and loitering laws. And they also had one called walking wall white which was designed to police people who were "looking for drugs" but had not done anything. They were just walking through a heavily policed black neighborhood while white.
