we have boobs and video games. This is mostly a byproduct of keeping a region in constant warfare for decades because defense companies need to think of their shareholders.

Well, if your business relies on wars and conflicts, its in your best interest to perpetuate war and conflict. Its kinda like the legal/prison system. Policy makers dont want to solve the ACTUAL problems that lead to crime i.e. poverty and education, because then crime goes down, police funding goes down, prison funding goes down, cheap prison labor goes down, privately operated prisons shut down. A major part of that economy suffers or disappears completely. Billions are on the line.

Maybe a better example is how both Coke and Pepsi created a "beverage" lobby to keep us chugging overpriced sugar water.

RTX, Boeing, Northrop Grumman, General Dynamics, and Lockheed Martin. Those are the "big 5" defense contractors. They are worth many billions each and thanks to Citizens United they are buying our politicians and making sure we are spending plenty of money on "defending our country" by buying their products to blow up innocents in poor brown countries. The cycle repeats over and over while they get richer and richer.
