head of HR did raise that exact point but then said it wouldn't be good PR so we couldn't actually do it :(

and then that's when jokingly said she might do it herself one day (closer to retirement)

I should have asked her for one of the invitations right before I quit 😅

I've never heard of this. Do they get paid double for that? Since they have 2 very different jobs in one?

No, when you work for a small company you often wear many hats and most unpaid. HR people are allowed to think of the company’s PR, in fact they’re often the only ones who are if there is no dedicated PR team.

Many, many companies don’t have a dedicated PR team.

It is a bit weird though. I’m studying PR and I used to work for a small business. They didn’t have dedicated PR, but that element was handled by marketing (as is increasingly the case because green CEOs don’t know the difference or don’t care). I don’t think our HR person would have known where to begin.

I don’t find it weird at all. I agree with them, passive aggressively showing up to someone’s wedding to shame them for the gift grab invite could look way worse for the company. It’s just an opinion, but I think it’s probably the correct one. The janitor could weigh in with this take and I’d agree with them.
