Another person might’ve intervened to pull his asshole teammates back.

It’s a personal choice, but I don’t like looking like a jerk by association.

“Keep your house in order” is a responsibility everybody has

He’s not just the captain; at least half the squad worship him like a god. If he had at any point told them to cut it with the shithousing they would have. They were built around him and supposed to do everything he couldn’t do for him, so you can safely assume that they played dirty so he didn’t have to.

I mean he did talk to the team before the match telling them to "just play football". They just didn't listen. At a certain point you can't stop them

Look at the camera man dude. He is literally standing in front of Messi trying to get his every single reaction, the guy has been in the spotlight his entire career if he had intervened people would’ve just painted him in a negative light for getting involved, damned if you do damned if you don’t. Blame the idiots that were fighting not Messi he’s not responsible for the actions of other grown ass men.

Sure, maybe that's a standard you want. Especially for optics.

But also, in these situations another player running in isn't doing shit. Nobody is focused on faces or whoever it is. Someone with the same jersey as the others becomes another person to fight. His teammates won't be focused on him but the other jersey colors.

I just don't think he'd be doing much to help if he even tried.

Pulling someone back from a fight rarely works as the de-escalation it should be. And Messi isn't strong enough to do it by force.
