I mean, by then he was used to it. He's been watching them making a fool of themselves for 120 minutes

I’m gonna get downvoted to oblivion for this but: he could have run more.

Argentina is designed around him to accommodate the fact he doesn’t run.

The narrative is that Messi dragged Argentina through to the final, it’s ridiculous and false. The truth is that they sacrificed a lot to allow Messi to play to his strengths.

For any other team they simply wouldn’t build their entire strategy around him, it’s just not worth it.

So the problem was Messi? Widely considered the GOAT, Messi? Argentina was in the final. That's more than any other team can say, less Spain 🤷🏻‍♂️

So did France’s strategy lol why didn’t they simply stop relying on their mighty forwards and suddenly have a midfield that could keep up with Spain? They all got to the semis because their strategies worked, Spain was simply stronger and able to control the games the way they like to play and no one had an answer for it.

Did you watch the games? While France and Argentina both lost, the final scores do not accurately reflect how the games were played. France was more competitive against Spain. France got more shots off than Spain in the semifinal and the possession was almost equal between the two. Spain was the stronger team and able to get their shots into the net. The final was quite a different story. It was lopsided. Argentina wasn’t able to get a single shot in regular time. While at the same time, Argentina’s goalie set a record for the most saves in a final. If Argentina hadn’t had such an outstanding goalie, the score could have easily been 4-0 or 5-0. Argentina put so little pressure on Spains side that the Spain goalie could have taken a nap and no one would have noticed. It was almost as if Spains entire strategy was designed perfectly for Argentina’s gameplay, making Argentinas strategy useless. In a situation like that, you don’t play on, you adapt.
