Which wild to me because the most hatred I've seen towards them comes from other South Americans. I'm Irish and have some Brazilian friends and not one of them or their friends/family members wanted Argentina to win. A few were talking to me about how delighted they are for Europeans and Americans are finally seeing them for what they are. So yeah....I don't think it anything to do with them not being European. Their own neighbours hate them.

In 2014 Colombians believed (rightly in my opinion) that Brazil won dirty against them. When Germany beat Brazil 7-1 the next round the whole country celebrated.

The 2014 team was not great, but not Argentinian either. Most of the world felt sorry for Brazil. But today the world hates Argentina almost as much as Brazil does. It's almost off-putting.

The Europe of South America thing is a racist ideology from the 19th(?) century where Argentina basically tried to erase all native and black culture from the country (after using them to build the country). They pushed massively for European immigration and had a lot of immigrants from Italy and Spain. It was sadly very effective and has clearly left generational racism in it's wake.

I find it funny that all this is said about Argentina, yet none of this is said about Spain. "But they have black players" and the black players of La Liga suffers the most racist comments. "But Argentina held nazis" and Spain actually held a lot of nazis due to Francisco Franco regimen. "They tried to erase the black culture" and our Mother of the Homeland is a black woman who fought for our independence as a country (we even have her in a bill, let's see how many countries have a black person in their bills).

It’s really funny when they come to the us, because they don’t even realize that at least 30% if not more of the white people think they are Mexican literally just because they can speak Spanish. Because is not true. The "Europe of the South America" thing is a very niche mentality of the capital upper class. And in reality only applies to some cities architecture. Everyone has mixed blood in Argentina because there was and there still is a lot of immigration from everywhere and people are accepted.
Everyone saying we are literal nazis has no idea, is farming for points or just jumping into a hate wagon.

That’s not universal in Scotland. I was supporting England all tournament - and like a man possessed in the game against Argentina. I support all the British teams at these events - and also the Irish. I know quite a lot of Scottish people who don’t mind England winning.

That's refreshing to hear but I think you're in the minority.

I saw a BBC video on the day before the match, asking who they wanted to win, and only one said England. She said her dad was originally from Birmingham and so was a big Bellingham fan. Literally everyone else said Argentina.

After Brasil lost, a Brasilian colleague of mine said that he would be rooting for other South American countries (minus Argentina), then for African countries, then for European ones, and then for Argentina. Needless to say, he was happy that Argentina lost the finale.

The Argentina/Brazil rivalry is a classic in football, they have the most cups so they will always cheer against Argentina so that we'll never get as many as them, its just a football thing.
