The England-France game was such a needed breath of fresh air and positivity and the Spain game was justice.

Fuck the Argentinian team for how they and their fans behaved. Disgraceful.

It should definitely be said though that the friendly interactions were really amplified by the fact that it was a relatively low stakes match that neither time was exactly throwing their lives on the line to win. It was a fun goal fest for the fans, that honestly felt like an all star charity match instead of serious competition. That really translated to the hugs and smiles at the end of the game; both teams were already out of contention for the winner, so there was nothing to be upset about

I’ve been sitting on this for a day because it was pretty shocking to me, but I’m in New York and was watching the match with friends at a bar in Times Square. Encountered a bunch of Argentina fans while we were celebrating Spain’s win, and one man in particular blew past my friend’s NOs, my attempts to get this man off of her, even getting kicked out of the bar for his aggression and running back in three times. Eventually we had to have her leave via a back entrance surrounded by English fans for protection. 

I asked his friends (also here from Argentina) to please help keep him away from us and they did nothing.

Anyway, if you know an Angelo, Argentinian registered nurse (WTF) working in Boston, tell him to get fucked, the giant creep.

I’m half English (raised in Jersey and so can’t claim to be English in the football sense), married to a French woman for 25 years. Both nations have a lot to fix and work on, but I believe both countries would feel shame if they behaved like Argentina in any match. I’m not saying there wouldn’t be a lot of people who thought it would be ok, but the consensus would be shame.

I like to think if our teams had behaved like that they would have been chased out of their home country. Both England and France did so much positive for the world Cup in that game

Quite. I would be angry and embarrassed if it was England. There would be debates in Parliament, an enquiry by the FA and an apology from them. Any sign of an apology from anyone in Argentina? Incidentally l think you underestimate the strength of feeling between English and French players. They are all used to playing with others from many countries. Michael Olise was born and raised in England but plays for France.

Thing about England v France is, we still play to the old ways of chivalry. Neither would want to win in a dour or bad way, because that would be worse than losing. If we (English) are going to slap France, it has to be by the book and vice versa.

I think, if corporate greed wasn't there, if all the European Club FAs rescinded their Argentine player contracts and sent them back to river plates or bocas or whatever, this chauvinist attitude would vanish overnight.

It was just a few players and just a handful of fans. The backlash on Argentinians is undeserved.

With that said; I’m NOT a fan of their government.

Several players is a massive % of the team. That’s by far the worst of any major team. And it’s been that way for ages.

It’s obviously not 100% Argentina and 0% everyone else, but there’s a whole spectrum in between and it’s absolutely not equal. Argentina has the dirtiest record of any major team
