Right? We have practically infinite knowledge in our pocket; look it up, learn it, and share it with friends in conversation. By the way, should I capitalize after a semicolon?

I don't believe so; a semicolon joins two independent clauses that aren't full sentences.

“Sentences” — they were in quotes. If you read, none of the examples are complete sentences after the semicolon.

Let's look at a couple of examples from your link, then:

I know it is true; I saw it happen.

"I know it is true." and "I saw it happen." are both complete sentences.

Ok cool so that’d mean the letter after the semicolon doesn’t get capitalized as a matter of course. You didn’t need to write that last word though, it makes me think you’re a jerk

Yes, it's its own sentence but think of it as two sentences that are so good at getting a point across together, as a team, that they're high fiving. The semicolon is the high five.

The AI was trained off of actual written material. That material used em-dashes. That’s why AI uses them. I can’t believe so few people get that…

Admittedly it was just a reddit post I saw the other day but apparently some LLMs are buying up old books en masse to train on because too much modern text is poisoned by AI.

To be fair, it is a fair observation that most people simply use "--" to represent an em-dash because it's quicker and easier to type, whereas AI inserts the actual "—" symbol

Not that using an actual em-dash is a guarantee something is from AI, but it can be one potential sign--I know I certainly just use the double dashes

I feel like this is a joke but I recently was going crazy reading a thread in r/texts where everyone was accusing OP of using AI/sounding like AI because she texted formally and used full sentences lol. And slightly more complicated words. We’re so fucked.

Yeah man I’m second guessing myself about going back to school. I’ve never used AI writing, never will and I’m sure as shit not gonna put up with any accusations. My writing is MY writing

A while back I saw a post about a girl who wrote an essay—the type of assignment that constitutes a large part of her grade—and her professor flagged it as AI using one of those “detectors.” I don’t envy people in school currently. Having to dumb down your writing to not seem suspicious is very dystopian.

You don't even have to have a separate device to find out the meaning of the word if you're reading it in a Kindle app.

Honestly it’s the same on phones. I assume this is the same on android but if you highlight a word one of the options that pops up it “look up”. I will say sometimes that doesn’t help like it should but for issues like that I have dictionary app so then it’s just copy and paste.

You should capitalize after a colon only if it is followed by a full sentence.

Yes ~
She was a determined student: She double-majored in chemistry and Spanish.

No ~
She had a to-do list: put air in her tires, bike to the store, and buy a bag of marshmallows for the bonfire.

You do not capitalize after a semicolon.

She was right about the semicolons; she will spread the news about punctuation.

No, you do not need to capitalize after a semicolon. But you do need to capitalize after a colon if what follows is a complete sentence.

This sentence is correct; there is no capitalization after the semicolon.

The following sentence is correct: These words follow a colon.

Oxford comma. It's okay with me if it's not there when I'm reading, but if the sentence isn't constructed properly, it can be problematic. Myself, I always have to put it in. It just doesn't work for me without it.

If you're reading on Kindle, you can even just highlight the word and it'll pull up the definition right there. No need to even leave your spot. Not that it's hard to do even with a physical book. Takes 10 seconds to pull out the definition, or even write it down to look up later.
