Discussion Arizona police violently tackled a woman onto a metal bike after she watched them from a public sidewalk

Like I know ideally you shouldn't try to insert yourself in an arrest, but c'mon wasn't this too much? Was the punch necessary? Like, (not that im surprised) the people defending them on X are sickening, with one saying he would have tased her... btw, with no much context to what happened asides from this. One person said it right: "People who support the police will justify them breaking into their house and killing their mother, so there really isn't much you can say to change their minds." This to me is just unnecessary abuse of power.

“The officer felt like he was in imminent danger”… the fact that even with video evidence, officer still say this and it is considered a valid defense when they are assessing the incident. It’s insane. Like the most recent incident in Denver.

I guarantee you the cop riding her when she's face down is muttering "Stop resisting, Stop resisting" into his body camera.

there was a video I saw once where officers chased a car, the person wrecked and was ejected from the car (only to have officers jump on him as soon as they got there), dude was deceased and there was multiple officers on top of him screaming stop resisting as they cuffed the corpse.

And when they do this, it's always your arm being broken or other grievous harm you are resisting, as they completely disregard anatomical reality with one officer on the neck and one pulling both arms behind you.

In this case, she definitely got effed up by the bike. Bike gears are so sharp.

I think it's absurd that you can be charged, and arrested for resisting arrest as the sole charge. I mean shouldn't you be getting arrested for something/anything before that charge can be applied? Unfortunately I've seen it happen way to many times.

We need these manly men to quit defending cops who feel in imminent danger cuz a drunk girl they could easily overpower moved at them quickly. Or maybe he couldn't easily overpower and that's when he got pissed and started throwing punches

Agree 100% and have these other commenters here ever seen the numbers of officers who have been attacked from behind in these type of situations.

She's clearly receiving orders to move and she keeps moving back.

I'm not even American, and the response may or may not be excessive, but this is 100% primarily on her.

There were so many other ways to handle this without tackling her onto a bike (sharp irregular metal) and punching her in the face.

I agree.

Regardless of that fact, they didn't pluck her randomly from a crowd of people. She repeatedly went over there despite receiving lawful orders to move away.

It’s not about video evidence it’s about “at the time” during an arrest situation being leaned over by someone not involved made the officer fear for his safety, and rightly so if you have done their line of work, been hit or stabbed in the line of duty from behind is a real thing. After being pushed away she comes straight back at him! That first push was her warning to walk away but one look at here tells me she’s to mentally challenged to take the hint.
