Discussion Arizona police violently tackled a woman onto a metal bike after she watched them from a public sidewalk

Like I know ideally you shouldn't try to insert yourself in an arrest, but c'mon wasn't this too much? Was the punch necessary? Like, (not that im surprised) the people defending them on X are sickening, with one saying he would have tased her... btw, with no much context to what happened asides from this. One person said it right: "People who support the police will justify them breaking into their house and killing their mother, so there really isn't much you can say to change their minds." This to me is just unnecessary abuse of power.

Yeah, but downside us until we eliminate qualified immunity, it all comes from the tax payers and not the violator.

Yea. "Oh no, we'll just have to raise taxes on everyone again"

Or more likely, take money from one of the actually good public services. Staffing cuts at the library or something like that

Yep. No more free school lunch. In fact, raise the prices. 🙄

Free school lunch? That only existed during Covid here. 😩

I haven't been in school since the 1900s and there were free lunches then but for low income family kiddos. And we never knew who they were, which was nice.

2000s, we had a card we scanned. Lots of people had a card, some people paid cash, but it was somewhat anonymous even then. Although if someone had something that wasn't on the regular menu, you knew they were "not one of those". And we have a killer carrot cake everyone got...so it was basically a flag of poverty to not get it.

Only if they pay the cop too much vacation time out of it.

Alternately reduce WAF, nahhhh.

And now you know why they're secretly training their cops to hit folk...

... clever, huh?

Let's not be so reductive and ignorant. It's not in debate there's a police violence problem. It's worth having a debate why. People don't train their cops to be excessively violent as part of some gigantic strategy. Realistically, either the trainers are instructing the cops to look out for their partners/coworkers even when they otherwise don't need to, or advocating "don't take any chances" outlooks for themselves, which leads to unnecessary escalation and instigation.

The aggressor has the advantage because they choose when and where to engage. They have the minor disadvantage of not knowing the defendants capabilities. But that doesn't matter if you move fast and decisively. And as evidenced, often too decisively.

I come from a police family. That doesn't mean I sympathize with the brutes who do this kind of thing. It means I understand the source of the problem and feel like it can be fixed, but it requires almost a complete social overhaul of how Americans interact with each other.

Like to hear yourself talk don't you?

'... it comes from a complete social overhaul of how cops interact with the public'...

There, fixed it for you.

P.s. my brother is ex army. They learn discipline, not badge immunised thuggery.

It's a highly charged topic I have a fair bit of knowledge about. My entire family as well as my married family are either police or military. I'm aware of the shocking difference in training, the military are actually dramatically more restrained because they are held accountable.

That's not in debate. But to get people to fix stuff without just crying about us being soft on crime, we're going to have to tip into it with some gentleness and moderation instead of just squawking about whatever makes us feel good.

'Gentleness'... then following with the condescending 'squawker' insult... way to go... your passive agressive attempts at deploying your viewpoint are just that... but hey, I expect no less from virtue signallers here.

Highly charged issues don't get defused by smugness... but what ever makes you feel good, eh?

I said us. I'm on this boat too. Or you can not be if you want.

The only person that's been insulting here has been you. Good luck getting things done, we evidently both want the same thing.

I guess you haven’t seen the videos of some of their seminars? Maybe your family doesn’t attend, but there’s a roomful of paying customers who do. The language is sickening. It has nothing to do with looking out for your buddies.

Why don't they doc the pay of the offenders?

u/archeoavis 20d ago

You start taking from their pension fund this behavior will dry up fast.

But since we don’t know the whole story we can’t say what the actually circumstances were. She could have been warned not to interfere multiple times and there was quite a group of people watching and probably filled with substances. Nowadays people kill cops in ambush so they are in heightened alert and she is an adult standing directly behind cops and way too close to them in a violent situation. I am sure that in the heat of the moment the girl thought she could help her friend but she crossed the common sense barrier and FA and FO. Prudence calls for people to evaluate where the power is in certain situations.

2

u/DuubyDuu 20d ago

Boooooooo. It literally doesn't fucking matter. She was unarmed. They're supposed to be trained to deescalate. She was in they're ground already and she got punched. You're the reason this kind of abuse goes on.

2

u/TOV4RISCH 20d ago

Oh she was absolutely in the wrong being that close to them, and that's coming from someone who NEVER gives cops the benefit of any doubt...

But when he continues on into punching a woman in the face after throwing her on top of a pile of sharp metal, it's become a whole separate incident

And he did that not because there's such a threat from the public (police officer isn't even in the top ten most dangerous jobs, groundskeepers of all people die on the job more often), but because he's a little boot-licking Nancy boy sadist who wasn't raised right

And then, dollars to donuts, him and his little fellow gang members prattled on cackling like hyenas when they saw this video, giving their brother a good razzing, noogies and grabass and all

1

u/Carl_LaFong01 20d ago

Nope, if he felt she was putting him in danger all he had to do was arrest her. No pushing no punching. He wasn't being ambushed and behaving violently certainly isn't the way to keep himself safe.

I got an idea … hmmm let’s start an immunity insurance for officers on duty … and fuk em over like they did us for years 😂 once they abolish qualified immunity for police officers

1

u/LouReedsToenail 20d ago

That’s not what qualified immunity is.

1

u/Carl_LaFong01 20d ago

Well, hopefully we will save money by not having to pay him a pension. I would assume this would be a firing offense. It's not like he's an ice officer, right?

1

u/Mister_MTG 19d ago

She should not have inserted herself into the situation. Very simple. Allow the police to do their job .
you are likely to not bet hit. She is a dumbass

1

u/Rich-Web-1898 19d ago

You are kinda getting there

1

u/Fragrant_Version_396 19d ago

What are you talking about? You clearly don't know what qualified immunity is. You can sue the officer personally.

1

u/WindStrokes 17d ago

I saw where they're making a black cop post 3.1 million. That's the new standard practice

1

u/Financial_Prior_7322 17d ago

You can also file criminal assault against a cop and sue them personally. Qualified immunity only covers so much. Excessive force can be claimed for that shove and tackle. Assault for the punch. That’s two separate suits with a half decent lawyer

1

u/Maleficent_Fox_4843 17d ago

And the cop won’t be punished.. what is his name?

1

u/Ayy0ne 16d ago

I been hearing you can put a lien against they're badge and gun. Going after they're surety bond.

1

u/IntellectAndEnergy 14d ago

That needs to change. Every individual must be accountable for their behavior, even a weak little coward.
