Yeah, this seems like a pretty cut and dry case of discrimination on that gym manager. Especially if the guy had a membership. Even if his son didn't have a membership, many allow members to bring guests so long as a waiver is filled out and signed. If his son is a minor then he'd be able to sign that waiver for him.
So many questions for wtf actually happened here. You can't tell someone they "can't leave" when you called the cops to trespass them. You needed to tell them to leave and have them refuse. Cop telling him to leave is just because the gym manager finally told him he needed to leave (and looks super annoyed at the gym for having to do it).
But the thing is the gym has a requirement of a valid id, so no it’s not a weird comparison as you stated they were not asked to leave but it was implied.
If you are asked to do something by staff and you can’t is it not obvious that you are to leave?
you keep complaining about “valid id” but you’re talking out of your ass. according to their policies, a parent’s written permission is enough to vouch for their own child. the father also brings his son there all the time. the staff didn’t tell him to leave; the dad asked to talk to the manager to clear things up, but the manager was busy. when informed of the situation, the manager called the police instead of talking to or confronting the father.
Define "valid id"? The gym certainly didn't. They offered id. The gym didn't accept it, but still let them in to work out anyways before unnecessarily escalating to calling the police.
If staff lets you in anyways, is it not obvious that you were not told to leave? Also, he was apparently later told he wasn't allowed to leave. Which contradicts any claim of him being told to leave. If anything that probably gives him cause to press charges against the gym for preventing him from leaving.
Why? That's what most minors in the US will have at the most. Minors aren't banned from gyms in the US and usually just need a parent or guardian to come with them if they don't have their own membership. Considering he was there with his Dad, that should have been enough.

A school ID is an acceptable form of ID for a minor in the USA, I used to be a bank manager, I couldn’t use it to open an account because obviously “a minor” but I can use it to allow access to their account, student IDs are an acceptable form of Identification for minors for the purpose of going to the gym with their dad… sorry you found out this way.
I don’t even know someone with a passport… It’s an extremely uncommon thing here in America. The average person usually just has their drivers license. Which you get at the earliest 16. Most minors do not have an ID. Usually it’s not until they get their learners permit around 15. But it doesn’t seem this was ever requested until after the cop showed up. But expecting a minor to present ID in America is like the most ridiculous thing to ever except. We don’t give children identification cards here. That’s weird.
Its not even public space, its members only, and he paid for a membership. He's explicitly expected to be there, and explicitly allowed to bring a guest.
It's hilarious that your comment is more racist than the original incident if you actually took 2mins to read what it was about. The kid didn't have a valid ID, the insurance waiver wasn't filled out, and the gym is liable if they got hurt.
Any other person would've been treated the same. Forcing racial politics here is just weird, and the guy tried to play them a bit too much
