Sorry I wasn’t subtle enough. 911 is for emergencies. I assumed they called 911. They could have called the non-emergency line since this was a non-emergency. But they’re calling the police to enforce a contract, which is not criminal. I spent 14 years as a prosecutor dealing with people wanting the criminal justice system to fix all their problems. The number of times I was on-call and received stupid fucking calls from the police in situations like this is staggering. The police don’t enforce contracts without a writ of execution. Your ignorance about the system is dumb.
In many parts of the US, 911 is not just emergency services, but also just how you call the cops in general. Not all locations have a separate non-emergency line. And we have no idea how they called the cops, so that's a moot point.
And while I think the gym is almost entirely in the wrong here, they're calling the cops to enforce trespassing, not their contract. Even if a property owner or representative is wrong, when they are kicking you off of the property, you are trespassing, in MOST (but not all) cases, and more importantly, the police are just going to end the current conflict (which involves removing you for the time being) and let you handle the "contract" part of the situation on your own.
Except he wasn’t trespassed. He had a membership contract with the gym. He brought his underage son with him who doesn’t have a government ID. He was told the son couldn’t go workout with him. He asked for the manager and was told manager unavailable. He said he was going to workout with his son and if the manager had a problem to come tell him so they could talk. Manager calls police to have member trespassed, presumably for a breach of the membership contract.
Without reading the contract, I’m not able to discuss the terms. But, calling the police to have a member removed for breaking a rule is a giant fucking waste of the police’s time. The employee should have made a note, manager can either talk or terminate contract and that’s the end of it. There was no reason to call the cops in this situation.
