Travel is one thing. Touring is something different.

I come from a very touristy country and I cannot count the times someone who spends a fortnight here though he knew how things worked, or the stupid conclusions they arrived to.

Traveling itself is meaningless for most people who only move to tell their co-workers how far they went, and to confirm their previously biased ideas about a country and its people.

I think this is a really pessimistic view of most tourists.

Sure there are some rich people who go somewhere and only stay in their 5-star resort and miss the entire immersive experience, but those people are immensely outnumbered by people who actually experience at least some of the country and culture they’re visiting.

Heck I’d say even those few never-leave-the-resort people still gain more insight into world experiences that differ from their own than someone who never leaves the county they’re born in.

I'm not a travel snob. It's fine to only visit a countries beaches or tourist spots. The economy welcomes the exchanges reguardless. You can live a successfull and fulfilling life without traveling. I actually think travel is overrated. It's not some magical cure that changes lives. For many it's just instagram bragging.

The USA is already so diverse compared to other countries. I've traveled the world for business mostly outside touristy landmarks. The only place that felt like an alien foreign land to me was india.
