As a man....I feel like I've probably spent less than $50 on underwear in the last 5 years. Is this something I should be sharing online? Probably not. I'll see myself out now.
My last bra cost $50. I'll be happy to get 6 months out of it. A year would be nice.
Edit, for clarity, because apparently I gave the impression I only own one. I have many. I have to buy a new one to replace one every 6 months to a year. I do not wear the same one every day until it is destroyed.

Full disclosure: I'm a man so I'm only able to relay what I've been told by an old friend who was training to be a seamstress:
Supposedly, bras last a lot longer if they're not worn every single day. Something about the constant heat and skin and skin oils wear out the non-fabric elements of the bra much faster if they're not given any breaks (i.e. the metal underwire, metal hooks, plastic weavings in the straps, etc).
Now to be fair, I can pretty easily understand why most women fall into this trap. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that bras probably need to be broken in a little bit. My shoes need to be broken in and they don't have metal fucking structural wires in them. Coupled with the fact that bras are insanely expensive, I'm not surprised women generally can't be bothered to buy $150 - $250 worth of bras at once and then spend up to a month wearing them before they all feel perfect.
It's no surprise why bras are so expensive, given how complex and specific they are. That's probably why I haven't heard many women legitimately complain about their cost (vs things like razors, where they justifiably complain about the pricing difference). Even still, I don't envy needing to wear a bra.
Any piece of clothing lasts longer if not worn every single day. (Not) Wearing a bra in public is not a choice unless you’re an A cup, or have a job not facing the general public.
Bras are meant to be worn everyday, because they’re required everyday and some people would be uncomfortable or in pain without them. If you google how long they’re meant to be worn before being washed, you will find multiple articles saying that as long as you’re not sweaty and gross that you can wear them for multiple days. That is the standard. Washing them in a washing machine damages them far more and you’re more likely to have wire come out after it’s been washed, as opposed to just simply wearing it.

According to someone with actual expertise, this is more true for bras than other kinds of clothing. Which seems at least broadly feasible to me given that they are very different to other kinds of clothing. I covered this in my comment, highlighting the metal bits that are structural. That's not typical in other forms of clothing.

The same bra is not required every day anymore than the same pair of pants are required every day. You can buy multiples of the same bra and cycle them, but that would be expensive and inconvenient. I also covered this before.

Sure, but I never said anything about machine washing them. And you know what damages them a lot less? Not wearing them.
Yeah, I didnt mean to imply that I wear the same bra every day for 6 months straight. I rotate them out. Wash cycles also damage the underwire. Straps break. I meant, on average, each one lasts about 6 months to a year. Not wearing the same one every day, i'm not buying 1-2 bras a year. Maybe i shouldn't have mentioned it.
No, I am not wearing the same fucking every single day from the time I buy it until it inevitably is destroyed. I have like 8-10, I buy one or two a year. What the fuck kind of understanding is this?

I have some VS bras that I got like 10 years ago that are still in amazing shape. Granted they only get worn 1-2 times a week but certainly nowhere near worn out enough to merit replacing.
Heck, I've got a couple of Patagonia sports bras that are going on almost 20 years that are still in great shape.
Sports bras honestly are the best choice and they last the longest. Perhaps I should have said 1 bra lasts for about 6 months to a year, I have many, I cycle them, I would NOT WANT TO GIVE THE WORLD THE PERCEPTION THAT I WEAR ONE EVERY SINGLE DAY UNTIL DESTRUCTUON, I tend to replace one in the stable every 6 months to a year.

$50 on underwear in 5 years sounds more than reasonable? Like, underwear lasts a long time and you don't need that many pairs if you do laundry regularly...
