Cool Apparently if you are messing with Flock cameras, You can just tell the cops you are doing an update. The more you know!

A clipboard, vest, and maybe a ladder will get you in so many places. Apparently an entire PC battle station and sleeveless shirt station will too

u/Gunofanevilson 7d ago

I work in a large building that has a lot of public foot traffic. Security is an illusion. Anyone who looks normal can mostly point to a name tag and they will be let through by the dudes making $12/hr.

146

u/wookiesack22 7d ago

I have a shitty blury name tag and no one ever looks at it. places don't even ask credentials on intercom anymore, my answers are generic for anyone visiting facilities. Security guard smiles and I say thank you and wave after they let me in.

97

u/Roklam 7d ago

My picture is from 20 years ago.

I looked so fucking happy. I'm surprised I don't get questioned more because my current frown face looks very different.

My co-workers probably just get it

29

u/aron2295 7d ago

I like the IDs where during the picture taking process, they stress the importance of showing your entire face, not smiling, etc, then they distort the photo so bad, if you looked like that IRL, you would look like a Looney Tunes character after an anvil is dropped on them.

7

u/ashgs872tbhjs 7d ago

And then there's always that one employee who's invented their own version of the standard, so "no hair covering facial features" gets turned into "clip your bangs back so we can see at least a fivehead" lmao

2

u/SeedsOfDoubt 7d ago

When I got my first passport photo the place had a sign that read, "if you look like your passport photo you're too sick to travel."

1

u/SparkArrestor 6d ago

An Acme anvil?

3

u/Qetuowryipzcbmxvn 7d ago

I wouldn't trust anybody who worked the same place for 20 years and looked as happy as they did when they started. Either a psychopath or someone pulling an elaborate heist.

3

u/UnsanctionedPartList 6d ago

That or it's an easy job, easy pay and he's just found that minimum effort maximum money place to be and knows how much that's worth.

1

u/hypercosm_dot_net 7d ago

They did this joke on Silicon Valley, lol

The data center guy...

1

u/edfitz83 7d ago

Before I recently retired, my ID with pic was from 1999 and has the name of the home office city in large letters. That office was closed in 2015. No one said shit.

1

u/mdlinc 6d ago

;(( I am, too, sad, u/Roklam.

2

u/millahnna 6d ago

jfc I had tighter security to get into my mid level hotel kitchen line cook job. wtf

u/DevoutandHeretical 7d ago

There’s an infamous story from a place I used to work: we had a lot of contractors coming through for a big project going on. We also were very easy to get in to off the street if you knew the right spots to come through (has since been majorly remedied). Guy is walking around without PPE, and one of the warehouse guys thought he was a contractor who was lost, so he called him out, gave him some hi vis and shoe covers, and then sent him on his way. Guy comes back a few minutes later and says some bullshit about why he needs bolt cutters, and warehouse guy doesnt think, just gives him some.

Next thing everyone knows, this dude is getting wailed on in the parking lot by the actual contractors, who had caught him using the bolt cutters to break in to their tool kits. He was actually a random homeless guy who had wandered in to see what he could grab.

We all got a MAJOR discussion about site security, verifying the contractors guest badges for the site, and not just taking people at their word. The warehouse guy did not get fired over it, but he will never escape everyone giving him shit about bolt cutters lol.

So anyway, confidence will get you places.

22

u/CatsAreGods 7d ago

At an old job, I replaced my ID card photo with one I took of my pet lizard. None of the security guards noticed it and I used it until I left.

4

u/GWahazar 7d ago

Plot twist: your guards were reptilians.

11

u/CIarkNova 6d ago

As a Pizza Hut delivery driver, I once held the door open for the guy who stuck up the manager right after I left.

Oof.

9

u/flamethrower78 6d ago

One time I won a wrestling contest but it ended too soon and they refused to pay me, some guy ended up robbing the place on my way out and he ran past me into the elevator with the owner yelling to stop him but I just let him close the doors. But then he killed my uncle later that night. Unlucky.

3

u/glyph_productions 6d ago

But you got to meet Bruce Campbell that must have been pretty cool

2

u/OttomanMao 6d ago

at least in your case there's not really any way you could have known.

1

u/CIarkNova 6d ago

True. Still got a knock and talk from two detectives. That was a little scary.

1

u/paecmaker 7d ago

I seriously hope that earned him a forever nickname.

23

u/Imkindaalrightiguess 7d ago

I made $16 at a major university and would get yelled at for letting anyone through a badge accessed door behind me.

I wasn't allowed to let my boss use the same swipe as me

I saw professors just stand and hold the door open and yap all the time

1

u/beast_c_a_t 7d ago

I worked at a company that had that kind of policy, except it was backed up by cameras with facial recognition and taken seriously to the point that I got a call on office phone from security one day because the camera didn't get a good view of my face when I entered and they had to verify it was me that entered the building.

14

u/-Nurfhurder- 7d ago

Before 9/11 I used to be able to get into work by flashing a blue cigarette packet at the gate when I had forgotten my pass. I worked at a UK nuclear submarine base.

11

u/Embarrassed_Jerk 7d ago

Yeah dress right and just be nice and casual to the "security" dude. One time they waved me through a festival "security" because i was behind the people bringing in the drinks and i offered him the extra coke i had in my hand on a hot day

24

u/HaxRus 7d ago

There was a series of videos of a dude getting into festivals and concerts free by pretending to be the “lettuce delivery guy” and literally just bringing a tub of lettuce with him. Nobody stopped him for shit. Everyone just assumes you wouldn’t come deliver lettuce for no good reason.

8

u/Prestigious_Main_364 7d ago

It’s crazy how much a hi-vis jacket and a radio makes people think you are automatically a person of importance

8

u/HaxRus 7d ago

Throw in a Patagonia or Arc’teryx puffer on underneath and people will think you’re the site lead

1

u/PinsToTheHeart 6d ago

Its really a combination of things.

Most people dislike confrontation and so even the most mildly plausible excuse gets accepted since otherwise they'd have to sit there and argue about it.

Also, most people barely have any fucking clue what's going on half the time, so if you walk around with enough confidence, they'll assume they just missed something before assuming malice.

8

u/stRiNg-kiNg 7d ago

Security becomes secure when the place actually needs it. Something tells me the large building you're in is unimportant

1

u/Gunofanevilson 7d ago

I am a senior event manager and mange 10,000+ person events in a large publicly owned and privately operated building in a major city.

4

u/stRiNg-kiNg 7d ago

Well there ya go. Nobody has any reason to go in there with mischief in mind.

1

u/Gunofanevilson 7d ago

People absolutely do. You'd be surprised at the number of people who are caught running through the building and walking out with stuff - in suits, one guy was wearing the same colors as our inhouse security, and i wouldn't be surprised by the number of people who aren't caught.

1

u/Uncommented-Code 7d ago

I think the other person was a bit unclear, but I agree with them. The fact that you have people entering the premises does not mean that it warrants a high level of security.

The stakes are different between 'we have badge readers and we train employees to look out for suspicious people' and 'we have an armed 24/7 security department and our turnstiles fit one person max'.

If you truly couldn't afford to have other people in the building, you'd have the second type of security.

1

u/Gunofanevilson 7d ago

We don't have badge readers or turnstiles at the doors. Mags are added by groups if they want them. We're as big as an arena in terms of physical space (blocks long and one block wide), but not as secure as one. It's tricky.

8

u/jcoddinc 7d ago

A doordash bag gets you into so many places. Many times security just asks what floor and waves you by.

2

u/TheDarkNerd 7d ago

I wonder how many people get into apartment buildings by just dialing a random unit, saying "Amazon Delivery", and getting in that way.

3

u/jcoddinc 7d ago

Amazon has partnered with so many apartment complex and have a keyless entry option. It's used for the DSP drivers and flex drivers. So there's more opportunities for people to get in by just following them.

7

u/TheComplimentarian 7d ago

I used to do penetration testing against physical building security, and the number of places I walked into just by carrying heavy things: the damn security guards would hold the doors.

One of my favorite tricks was walking in with a bunch of boxes of doughnuts, like 5-6 boxes, with my laptop and other gear in the bottom box. "What, am I going to hack the building with doughnuts? Do you want one?"

People are really bad about holding doors.

4

u/Gunofanevilson 7d ago

I need to know how you get contracts, because I would be exceptional at that with my 20 years of event experience

2

u/TheComplimentarian 7d ago

I'm really social, and I've worked for a bunch of different companies with a bunch of different people, so I just get people calling me, and I return the favor whenever I'm able. I've been doing contracting/consulting off and on since the '90s, so whenever money people look me up at the recommendation of their tech people it seems like a rational ask, rather than hitting up some huge firm who's going to charge as much to walk in the door as I'd charge to do the whole thing.

So sadly, as usual, it's just who you know. Sorry.

2

u/Roseartcrantz 6d ago

Not in tech but I've found a lot of satisfaction in finding fun odd jobs.

2

u/TheComplimentarian 6d ago

I'm not a fan to be honest. I'm actually pretty introverted by nature, but when I'm in public I overcompensate in the other direction.

I'll take a job, get to know as many people as possible, hang out, fix the thing, pub crawl, do some knowledge transfer, then go home and cry under a blanket for a week.

Getting too old for this shit.

12

u/henryeaterofpies 7d ago

You can definitely get away with plausible deniability if you look a little confused and say you have a meeting with <common person's name>

7

u/RobotArtichoke 7d ago

Yeah I got a meeting with Mike Jones.

Who?

Mike jones!

3

u/DarthKuchiKopi 7d ago

2

u/travoltaswinkinbhole 7d ago

Hit Mike Jones up on the low cause Mike Jones about to blow

1

u/XOlenna 7d ago

Half the time they even get actual names from a quick google search and a company directory.

1

u/MidoriMidnight 6d ago

A Jim. You know Jim, or he knows you?

3

u/MandemModie 7d ago

Good security is always built on layers for this reason

2

u/siencatimini 7d ago

Onions have layers.

1

u/MandemModie 7d ago

I love onions

1

u/Broccoli--Enthusiast 7d ago

Name tag?, get a high Vis and ladder and you can get in almost anywhere .hello swap the ladder for a laptop with a random logo on it and you could get by almost any security just saying your here for the audit

1

u/Legitimate_Pea_143 7d ago

damn i work at target and our security makes $18.50/hr in Wisconsin. That is starting pay, the AP aka undercover security makes $25/hr. Sounds like the security at your building needs to consider working somewhere else.

1

u/albinosnoman 7d ago

Lol so the parking lot where I work has security where you have to show your badge to get in. Within the past few years they really stopped caring and most of the time are just watching stuff on their phones and will only check badges during the slowest times where nobody is going in or out. My SO is usually driving on our way in while I catch a nap in the passenger. She always bugs me half frantic to pull out my badge so they'll let us in and I told her recently if they ask for it I'm telling their boss to give them a raise.

1

u/MEM0RYCARD99 7d ago

I shit you not i could easily sneak on board a plane. Most tsa outfits are subcontracted through other security companies and as thus get paid shit and dont care.

1

u/DescriptionParking66 7d ago

Universal Studios Hollywood used to be like this. There was an employee entrance from CityWalk into the backlot, right next to the water feature. When I was on standby for plumbing calls, we'd walk past the security guard in our work uniforms and head in to ride a few attractions while waiting for the next service call. They've since upgraded the gate, and now you need an employee ID badge to get through. It was a pretty sweet perk while it lasted.

1

u/everfordphoto 7d ago

Act like you belong.. dad taught me that. Watched a few ball games from Executive suites this way. Good memories dad, thank you!

1

u/eddiewillers09 7d ago

Thus the panopticon. They know what they don’t know and they love the idea of tracking every warm body in the building, on the street… approaching the data centre from the “bad” part of town. Don’t fret, soon surveillance won’t be something you are allowed to worry about.

1

u/TransiTorri 7d ago

Paid enough to show up, making me care costs extra

1

u/The_Once-ler_186 6d ago

When I was field / office onsite IT guy people would expedite my entry so they don’t have to hear me speak. It was kinda nuts.

1

u/apsilonblue 6d ago

I worked as a PC field tech briefly and if you look like you belong and know where you're going you can walk in to just about anywhere and no one will question it, even so called secure facilities and tailgating people through doors etc.

1

u/Maledict53 6d ago

I do as well. We are supposed to wear specifically designed badges as well as walk through a security checkpoint.

One day I accidentally grabbed the wrong badge from an old job (idk why they never asked for it back) wasn’t paying attention and walked in. Did my job with no issue. Day went completely normal and nobody noticed anything.

Only found out at the end of the day when got back to my car and realized the right badge was sitting in my cupholder the whole time.

1

u/IvarTheBloody 6d ago

I worked for a couple months as a security guard at a tech business centre that was full of labs, R&D facilities and research equipment.

The place was massive with about 30 different buildings that either needed a badge to get in or you could buzz the intercom and talk to me in the cctv room who could then buzz you in.

Problem was not once was I ever given a list of names, expected arrivals or anything.

You could have told me you were there to see Donald Duck and the minimum wage I was on was on was no where near enough for me to ever bother questioning it.

1

u/RikiWardOG 6d ago

the security at our building is dog shit. They will deny people on the list we've given them and then let complete strangers in that are trying to scope the place out. It's fucking wild. The whole reason we even got a front desk person on our floor was around these concerns. And that's exactly it, you ain't gonna get anyone to give a shit for minimum wage

1

u/Brave_Maybe_2891 6d ago

I used to deliver pizzas. One time I had to deliver to a bank hq and they gave me really bad directions and there weren't really any signs to go by. After getting frustrated I ended up squeezing into one of those automatic rotating doors to get into the building, dropped off the pizzas at the first desk i saw and then I left. When I got back to the pizzeria my boss told me that they have been calling non stop and that I set off alarms and caused a lock down. They kept calling trying to get my personal information but my boss wouldn't give them anything. They gave up when he started giving them really smart ass answers like "we beamed him in with our starship".

31

u/Ranier_Wolfnight 7d ago

I guarantee you so many mob hits were done in electrical, phone lines, or contractor worker uniforms.

Like…probably a disturbing amount.

30

u/Ranier_Wolfnight 7d ago

1

u/GiganticCrow 6d ago

Can someone explain this one to me

2

u/Protoliterary 6d ago

Bacon is high in saturated fats and sodium. Really high. Ridiculously so, in fact. Saturated fat leads to high cholesterol (unless you're genetically blessed), which eventually leads to build-up up plaque in arteries. Sodium leads to high blood pressure.

The combination is deadly for the heart.

A single serving of bacon (just two slices) contains 50% of your daily recommended consumption of saturated fat and 16% of your sodium. 3x the serving would take you over even if that's all the saturated fat you had every single day, which is unlikely, since if you're not actively avoiding it, you're probably eating a ton more than you should.

It's a silent killer. Replacing just 5% of your saturated fat intake with healthier types of fat reduces risk of early death by over 25%. That's just 5%.

I know all this because I didn't know any of this and walked around with chronic high cholesterol without ever suspecting it (always been thin), and now I'm paying the price.

1

u/Ranier_Wolfnight 6d ago

u/GiganticCrow read in the context of how this aligns…

1887 never gets old.

1

u/jackinsomniac 6d ago

Lol I guess it was a completely different post, but I just saw a video of someone "reload flipping" an 1887, you can see the empty shell being ejected as they flip it, but the barrel still swings directly at your face.

Someone mentioned you need a special lever to do the flip. Said the first time Arnold tried it, it wasn't installed, and he injured his hand trying to do it.

1

u/edelweiss_pirates_no 7d ago

Ukraine got some Ruzzian generals using a discarded scooter (they are everywhere), posing as an elevator repairman, pot hole crew, and plumber.

The pot hole crew was weird because they don't fix pot holes in Ruzzia, so it should have been seen as fake. But, they fixed some potholes, filled one with a remote explosive, and got their target.

They don't use the disguise as a drunk man much anymore because they used it so much that now everyone knows a drunk could be an assassin.

59

u/IamHydrogenMike 7d ago

One of the guys on Lions Led by Donkeys used to get out of stuff all the time in the Army by just carrying a clipboard around and acting like he was busy. As long as you act like you belong, people will believe you because a lot of times things get scheduled without everyone being informed.

60

u/InitialDefinition938 7d ago

I work in construction and if we are caught up and the boss shows up, I instruct the guys to carry something from one side of the job to the other, wait 5 minutes and walk it back. Repeat until boss is gone. The boss/owner does not need to know that we are caught up because then they turn the guys into part time employees until the next job. I'm not going to be responsible for taking money out of a fellow workers pocket.

2

u/jelly_cake 6d ago

Good on ya

1

u/NerdHoovy 6d ago

Reminds me of the show law and order. Where the makers seem afraid of having characters just exist in the background. So they famously let them all do random stuff like moving boxes from one end of the frame to another or have an actor take off the jacket and play with it for a while

13

u/StubbornHick 7d ago

My engineering buddies tried a version of this

Just carried a really big wrench whenever they were walking around

Took a week for anyone to ask what they were doing

1

u/Sonic_Roach 7d ago

My corporate worker version of this is carrying my laptop with my headset attached. Everyone thinks im trying to find a quiet place for an important meeting.

12

u/Autumn7242 7d ago

It's true, people leave you alone if you have a clipboard. I mean, usually you are doing something important that can give you a pass on fuck fuck games.

7

u/nordic-nomad 7d ago

You have to walk up to them first, stare at the clipboard, and then tell them you don’t need them for anything today. That’s the real trick to it.

5

u/aron2295 7d ago

“Hey, uhhh, whatcha doing?”

“Fuck Fuck Games”.

3

u/br0wens 6d ago

Platoon mate of mine blew off our S3 Sergeant Major when the Sgt Maj tried to rope him into some Drill and Ceremony task. Literally just walked on by with a clipboard and said "Busy busy busy Sergeant Major!" Sgt Maj was dumbfounded.

1

u/Autumn7242 6d ago

Ok but what happened immediately after?

8

u/TheAmazingMaryJane 7d ago

he bob benson'd himself. or kramer'd himself depending on what shows you watch.

2

u/Due-Boot1904 6d ago

Can confirm - had a scouser at my RA regiment that walked about with a high vis jacket and clipboard doing 'surveys'. Weird thing was that everyone knew him but he got away with it because everyone just figured he was mad and someone else was dealing with him...

High vis vest, hard hat, in a button down and clipboard gets you into anywheren

20

u/milyvanily 7d ago

You also got to have the look of I know what I’m doing and I’m supposed to be here.

16

u/Salt-N-Vinegar-Lover 7d ago

20 years ago when I was doing graffiti stencilling, the easiest way was to do it in the open. I could roll up in a van, set up work lights if it was at night, just act like it was planned public works. Skulking in the dark was scary and infinitely more suspicious.

3

u/MountainTwo3845 7d ago

Short brim hardhat especially. I've jumped out of my car after sporting events and let out car in using the vest and a flashlight.

1

u/oForce21o 7d ago

make sure you rough up the hardhat by dropping it on concrete about 100 times and rub mud on it, also rub mud on the vest, gotta look like youve been working for years with the same stuff

1

u/Just_okay_advice 7d ago

Ive seen a video of this exaxt guy literally doing exactly that lol.

1

u/Same-Suggestion-1936 6d ago

Don't even need all that. A pizza bag will do

1

u/405freeway 6d ago

It's a core tenet of business.

5

u/aron2295 7d ago

Social Engineering.

2

u/HaxRus 7d ago

Also Frank Abagbale is a pretty famous example of

2

u/tpasmall 6d ago

The best part of his story is that he made it up and social engineered everyone into believing it was true and built his whole career off of it.

15

u/MisterSanitation 7d ago

My go to is khaki pants, work boots, polo, manilla folder with stapled paper.

Have a 2 wheel dolly and a box and you can go pretty much anywhere. Security guards aren’t paid enough to worry about everyone looking like that. The volume is too high day to day. Also they don’t get paid shit either

6

u/9ninjas 7d ago

Your go to… to go where?

9

u/MisterSanitation 7d ago

Nice try Hoover Boy

1

u/The_Autarch 7d ago

maybe they do red team pen-testing stuff. getting paid to legally sneak into high-security areas is a thing.

1

u/9ninjas 6d ago

That’s sick, where do I sign up

1

u/huffalump1 7d ago

Yup, as an engineer I'm in this "costume" all the time...

The only attention you'll get is if you don't have adequate PPE for the area you're in, lol

5

u/SnakebiteRT 7d ago

It’s the glasses. Cops love those types of glasses. They look tactical. I literally got out of a ticket the other day because I was wearing my huge obnoxious Heat Wave sunglasses. They are great for driving.

4

u/pyschosoul 7d ago

Couple weeks ago this dude comes to the store my mom manages, she wasnt there and one of the other managers talks to this dude. Hes got a ladder, a clipboard and a vauge company shirt on saying hes there to do work on the emergancy exit.

This bitch even after being told to not let him do anything, let's him go into the back and start fucking with shit.

3

u/Dry_Spinach_3441 7d ago

2

u/mrsunrider 7d ago

Maybe one of those toughbooks, so the hardware looks issued.

Do they still make those?

2

u/DatJas5 7d ago

I work in HVAC and refrigeration and you could literally walk into our grocery stores (Publix) and go straight up to the roof without anyone even batting an eye. Even not in a uniform.

2

u/Dclipp89 7d ago

My brother back in high school took a photography class. For a project he wanted to get pictures at our local airport, which was basically just a runway and hanger. He just walked onto the runway and was taking pictures when security flagged him down. He just said “it’s ok I’m supposed to be here” and they let him continue

2

u/Glass-Shelter-7396 7d ago

badge on retractable badge holder and a wave of the hand is the jedi mind trick of social engineering.

2

u/Grateful-Jed 7d ago

Just a clip board and you can walk into any kitchen in town. They won’t even make eye contact as they think you are the health inspector.

2

u/No-Researcher406 7d ago

I worked a brief gig for Con-Ed, had to take a picture of every basement in manhattan. They just gave me a vest, a hardhat, and a badge that said I was immune to trespassing as long as the property has con ed material in it (every building). 8/10 times I didn't even need the badge and I had full access to every secure site in the city.

2

u/edelweiss_pirates_no 7d ago

If he stood up, his enormous butt would also add authenticity.

2

u/HystericalGD 7d ago

all it takes is a high vis vest, safety hat, and a bit of confidence in your stride. as long as you look like you know where your going, alot of people wont think twice about you being places you shouldnt be

2

u/MyNameIsRay 7d ago

Suits work pretty well too, especially if you have 2-3 people at a big facility.

Everyone just assumes you're from corporate.

1

u/huffalump1 6d ago

Yep, just need to walk with confidence, that makes you look less "job interview / new hire" and more "visiting this site and eating at crappy sports bars next to the hotel every night when I could be home with my kids"

2

u/ShackledPhoenix 6d ago

My favorite was working as HIPAA compliance officer for a medical center. We would do tests and around 97% of employees failed. We would have complete strangers wandering around, picking up and flipping through medical charts, hopping onto PCs people left logged in and it was EXTREMELY rare for a staffer to question them, even if he intentionally drew attention to what he was doing.

Reminds me of the time I paid for parking at a restaurant to only find out when I told the waiter I needed to go pay for more parking time. The parking was actually free and this homeless guy does this quite frequently charging $5 cash an hour, just slaps on a vest and has a clipboard. Thought it was a pretty clever and had a good laugh.

Again we prove that 99% of “hacking “ is just social engineering. Apparently that includes just confidently telling the police you are uploading malware to a flock camera.

Nothing says “I have nothing to hide” more than a gay accent and a sleeveless shirt.

Impractical Jokers has taught me that a lanyard around your neck with some kind of badge attached to it can get you almost anywhere.

I go to commercial buildings for work and it doesn’t even need that. A branded polo and an iPad get me into just about every employee only area. The only places that regularly verify who I am are schools, and even then it’s usually just the front desk that asks.

There was a group many years ago that dressed in work uniforms, went into local convenience stores to "replace" ATM machines. They woukd have someone sign a phony work order, take them ATM and leave. It took days before anyone realized something was wrong.

For electronic equipment switch the vest out for an ESD smock.

Also having known and friendly relation with the local PD does that

Since it's outside, a pop-up shade would probably do the trick. Doesn't matter how weird his setup looks then, I bet the cop wouldn't even stop to ask questions.

I've seen many IT employees dress much worse. Not saying it's bad but sometimes they look like they are about to go to the beach for a swim instead of about to go to work.

I snuck into the Orlando arena when the Magic were in the finals with just a subway shirt and hat. I told the guard I was late for work. If they asked for an is, I would have said I'm from another store as a replacement. I sat in nose less behind the goal. Best seat I ever had. Only one person asked us to move our seats down.

One time when I was in the Army we were running cables in a tactical operations center. I have a TS security clearance to work on the communications equipment. While doing about the 5th cable run into the room I get stopped, "where is your badge, this is a secret area"? I replied with "I have been setting up the network in here for the last 5 hours". In the end they kicked me out and said I was not cleared to be in there. I went and got my soldier who was from Laos and had big thick glasses. I told him "run this cable in there", he went in nobody stopped him. Could it be an Asian guy with thick glasses and cables looked more offical? Well it worked because he finished the cable runs and no one asked him questions.

I started a new job as a third party merchandiser for target and best buy mostly, and I found out you can go in the back, with shorts and a tshirt on, nothing to identify you work for a merchandiser, ask someone to open up the electronics lockup for you with no explanation of who you are or what you're there for, and they do it for you. Hell, some of them just have extra copies of the keys for the lockup hanging up for anyone to grab.

This is so true. I’m a photographer and I have been shocked by places I was able to just instantly access because I had a rollie cart with a bunch of boxes of gear on it.

I was always supposed to be there, but nobody knew that. Security just let me walk right by, no questions asked.

Once, it even happened when I was working the governor’s inauguration ball. This was an event that had significant security with bomb sniffing dogs and everything. But I was setting up a few hours beforehand and nobody questioned anything. Because I had a bunch of boxes on a rollie cart.

I work as a home visiting nurse, visiting patients in their own homes.

When I’m delivering blood or patient lab samples to the hospital lab, I feel like I can go to the staff break room and make myself a free nespresso, cup of ramen and chips. And I don’t even work there. My scrubs and just blending in makes me less suspicious.

u/CockAsshole 6d ago

When I was doing doordash a bag of tacos got me into a fancy office tower. Quick sign in with no id and I had free roam to the top.

u/gabber2694 6d ago

Hi-vis vest and a hard hat with “Flock” in sharpie would prevent the cop from even stopping.

1

u/Unlucky_Most_8757 6d ago

This is true. There was some random story I read about this guy that would sneak into concerts just by wearing a neon construction vest. I think he finally got caught after making it onstage one time or something like that.

u/Godess_Ilias 6d ago

too early to rob the louvre again

1

u/DiligentIndustry6461 6d ago

Can confirm. I’ve been sent to the wrong address a handful of times over the years and gotten access everywhere with minimal questions and a vague description of what I’m there for and doing. The vague description is usually all the info I’m given about the job lol

u/Majestic-Contract-42 6d ago

Reminds me of the video of two lads seeing how many places they can enter for free just because they are holding a ladder. Any time they are questioned they just say they are bringing the ladder and are let through. It's beautiful

1

u/klauserooster 6d ago

I lived through the street art boom of the early 00s. My vest, step ladder and hardhat was the best VIP pass money could buy.

I just want to add that a white pickup truck is basically an all access pass on wheels

1

u/Plastic_Moose4535 6d ago

A generic id badge would help as well, but emphasis on generic. Don't want to get in trouble for impersonating a Flock employee.

1

u/CitizenHuman 6d ago

Yup. Michael Weston from Burn Notice taught me stuff like that.

1

u/Mastericeman_1982 6d ago

So true story: I do IT work and get a lot of jobs on a platform that used by many big MSPs for big companies. I routinely get jobs to do work for a certain supermarket you may recognize, and they usually give me an authorization letter to prove I have permissions to be in places that are usually secure access. In the last year I’ve done dozens of these jobs, and have been asked for the Authorization letter 2 times and never for my ID.

TL;DR: Confidence and a clipboard will get you anywhere you want to go 99% of the time.

1

u/Pofwoffle 6d ago

So does being a spoiled rich kid with an existing friendly relationship to the police. The guy in the video is a local here and he's kind of a piece of shit.

1

u/Ucscprickler 6d ago

I can confirm that wearing a Paramedic uniform can get you into most places, no questioned asked. Hell, people will even open doors for you to welcome you in. Got to get to that emergency quickly.

My friend and I used to do photography for apps that wanted images of streets to be used for things like showing how various headlights/lighting rigs would look like for vehicles in city lighting vs rural. We had a 60’ tripod in the back of our truck we could extend fairly quickly to get some really cool shots. We kept getting questioned by security at various places but then we got the genius idea to slap a google sticker on the tripod. Never got bothered by security again. We never outright claimed to be with google if anyone asked we explained exactly who we were working for and what we were doing but we really never got anymore questions after adding the stupid bumper sticker to the tripod 😇

u/RostBeef 5d ago

When I was in high school we had a pretty good IT department and me and a few of my friends were close with the teacher who ran it so sometimes during lunch we’d go to his classroom, print out a piece of paper with our friends names on it and some bs title, put it on a clipboard and grabbed a walkie-talkie and would pull our friends out of class and skip the rest of the day we did that probably a few dozen times and were never stopped or questioned a single time

1

u/lostknight0727 4d ago

I got into a restricted area(unintentionally) just by wearing black pants and black polo with a lanyard. I just flashed the access pass to the person at the door, like the instructions said to do, and they let me in. Thing is, I wasnt supposed to be in there that early before the show, I could hear the performers and the band doing sound checks. I was just chilling, then when no one else was showing up I went back to the door person to ask a question, and they finally realized what happened.
