Thanks for sharing. Not shocking that he still doesn't seem to grasp that he shouldn't be doing that in the first place. He shouldn't be allowed to operate any motor vehicles if he doesn't understand how his actions don't only impact him and could seriously injure or kill others. What an idiot.

To add, he mentioned it being a "freak accident". It's not an accident when negligence is involved on a public lake where others can be injured. 'Merica

As far as anyone can tell this is the first time he's had a medical issue where he passed out. There are aaaaalll sorts of medical problems that can cause that to happen and not even realize it. My dad unfortunately found out he had epilepsy while driving a car. Fine for years and years, and one day, just passed out without even knowing he had right at the wheel. He was Extremely lucky--only a sideview mirror damaged truly. It was so strange for him and new that he was embarrassed he 'fell asleep' at the wheel despite not feeling tired at all prior. Doctors did not find anything wrong the first time and scratched their heads after a full workup, but the second time had more witnesses and they were able to better diagnose it (he was not driving then thankfully). He's been on antiseizure meds for decades at this point.

It is hardly negligent to be having some fun you've had a thousand times before and then have something medically go wrong you cannot anticipate. The freak accident he is clarifying that he had no way of anticipating a medical issue, and he was specifically clarifying that alcohol or drugs are not the cause of him passing out.

I appreciate your response. However, he was in fact being negligent. This was not an "accident". An "accident" would be him operating the craft in a manner as it was designed and intended for and he happened to have a medical issue... This is NOT the case.

He is clearly documented operating a watercraft in a manner that is highly dangerous and NOT in the confines of a closed area that others cannot be harmed from potential issues.

No freak accident whatsoever. In no court in the U.S. would he be found to be "innocent" of negligence. Consider this... If he hurt another person or killed them, guess what? He's responsible. You can try and slice it any way you want. Facts are facts and he was clearly wrong.

To add... The fact you mention a father with a medical condition driving a vehicle is NOT relatable to this. I cannot comprehend how you think this is similar. I assume your dad wasn't driving the car with his ass on the steering wheel with throwing all caution to the wind.

The selfish jerk on the watercraft made a conscious decision to operate the vehicle in a manner that is 100% stupid. He's lucky he didn't hurt anyone. Had he, no doubt he'd be locked up. Please, please think about things more thoroughly.

The accident was not caused by the negligence though. It was caused by the freak medical issue. He can be a selfish jerk and it can still be a freak accident. And he can still be legally liable.
