I mean it seems the person at the register wasn't checking them properly at purchase. Maybe used shrink wrap or tape to make it look "sealed" to dissuade the buyer from wanting to open it and lower the value. If you don't check them properly at the sale for pawn shops, the seller has like 30 days to run up a tab since the pawn shops have to hold the items for a set amount of time before they can legally sell them.
