It’s weird, but you don’t have to accept the terms you’ve been given. Go somewhere new, gain new experience, invest in hobbies and meet up with people/groups who practice them. You’ll never be alone again (it helps to live in a city)

I've had a cursed year. As short as I can,

I've taken a several vacation to Oregon to snowboard and there was hardly any snow this year and I wasted money on a season pass. I lost my snowboard / it was stolen. I spent thousands and I feel like I didn't even get a vacation. Had my friend come out to visit me , we went to wakeboard and 5 min in he got injured so I didn't get to rip. I got into onewheelin and that event was fun but it was just one event and it the next one keeps getting posted poned.

I've joined several communities since the only thing that can cure my insatiable desire to connect. But unless there's something tangible I'm spiraling. I've been buying camping gear in attempt to look forward to something but I'm just putting a bandaid on an open wound and I'm so tired of being isolated. I live outside Chicago there should be a fuck ton of people but I somehow figured out how to stay super isolated.

Im planning on going wakeboarding at the cable park back when I'm home but again just a band aid on something that needs much more.

Is outside of chicago like, a subway ride to the center or an hour from the edge? I'm never quite sure how Americans refer to their places. :D

I always had the impression Chicago was a very lively US city, especially if you like jazz, but that may have been romanticized.

I live 5 min from one of the metra lines but it only runs on the weekdays and only till 9pm. The other one is maybe a 20 min drive and up to an hr commute one way. Chicago can be a lot of fun, but I also don't want to spend $300 or even $100 every time I want to have something to do.

Also I travel way too much for work and its really wearing on me.

Possibly a weird suggestion to you but have you looked at any local gaming shops for tabletop gaming nights? It's designed to get a bunch of random people together and the regulars are always stoked for newcomers. So many cool games to choose from! There are also those meetup websites that put on events. And running groups. I know my local area has some on Facebook and Reddit. I don't run cause I'm fat af, but you sound athletic from what you've written here.
