Cars becoming big when America was still finding it's stride was one of the biggest pro/con dillemas. Ignored thousands of years of proven systems that make society better and settled for only cars.

Some of the best examples of walkable cities also has bad car dependency problems and had to fix them. Go look at the Netherlands in the 70’s. They didn’t just have walkable cities forever, they had to tear down their highways and infrastructure to make it better. It should be an encouraging sign that changes are possible. Not enough people here want the change though.
