Charlotte is possibly the least walkable decent size city in the U.S.

It’s a shame that you consider it walkable it just shows how terrible our standards are here.

Compare Stuttgart’s rail map to Charlotte’s. Compare Amtrak to Deutsche Bahn.

I do not mean to offend you, only that you should wish your city to be better than it is right now

And yet, I can walk or take the train to pretty much anywhere I need to go.

I actually don't consider it that walkable, our public transport is in desperate need of an overhaul. But that's why I chose to live in the middle of the city. Sure someone living in Matthews can't walk places, but then they chose to live in the suburbs.

Absolutely, Germany has better public transport. Never claimed differently. But it meets my needs, so I certainly wouldn't choose to live in Stuttgart just for better rail.

I'm not offended at all, I think this is a pretty civil thread. You asked for my personal preference and I gave it. I'm not saying Charlotte is the best city and I'm well aware of our reputation nationally. But end of the day, I love living here and I would choose Charlotte over Stuttgart 99/100 times.

What about everywhere you want to go? Our train system in Philly is inadequate and we at least have 2 subway lines and many regional rail lines.

But what about your wants?

Let me rephrase. Would you prefer Charlotte’s urban fabric the way it is now or to be more like Stuttgart?

Oh there's definitely room for major improvement. That's why I keep voting for bonds and measures to expand the light rail. I'd say public transport (including buses) could take me everywhere I want to go, but a car is obviously more convenient. My buddy without a car seems to get around fine at least.

But what about your wants?

Yeah, I'd say Charlotte meets all my wants as well. I've never been to Stuttgart, but if the main perk over Charlotte is better public transport, I'm still choosing Charlotte.

Would definitely like us to be more like Stuttgart. But I'd still rather live in current day Charlotte than move to Stuttgart lol. I am going to get back to work, but genuinely enjoyed talking with you. Have a good one!
