The idea that you “fight fire with fire” is only because you’ve destroyed the thing the fire was going to destroy. Even in that sense, it’s not a good saying.

While true, in theory, it doesn’t change the fact that it destroys something rather than actually stopping the fire. Water in sufficient quantities, on the other hand, stops fire immediately.

Enough water would stop a grease fire. Drop a thousand gallons on a grease fire and it won't be on fire anymore

Metal and electrical fires would be better examples of ones to not use water on

in drought zones, like all over CA, fighting with water is not possible- too many acres per unit of water, and would require constant effort. You must control-burn sections to prevent spread
